399050 2005-10-25 04:25:00 Well kind of, according to stuff the Inland Revenue is trialing linux on a handfull of its desktop computers.

And the National Business Review had a little ***** about it, allthough its probli because the Greens support it, rather than open source software itself.

399051 2005-10-25 06:45:00 Rodney Hide, the Act Party leader has also gone to Linux ;)

His Blog entry on Linux (www.rodneyhide.com)

I think the Aussie IRD has also moved to Linux, or are in the process of migrating as well.

399052 2005-10-25 07:16:00 Its interesting because with the big boys like IBM and Novell joining in, business is starting to take notice of Tux (although Tux might need to wear a tie to meet the suits :o)

Jen, have you emailed Rodney Hide suggesting he might like to look into writing a driver for his 120GB external drive :waughh:

399053 2005-10-25 07:34:00 And.... Do you think that the National Business Review might run Microsoft ads. I think they must. :p dolby digital (5073)
399054 2005-10-25 08:05:00 Amazing, the greens and act agree on something. Hmmm maybe there an alternative coalition out there for labour ;) imarubberducky (7230)
399055 2005-10-26 04:28:00 Jen, have you emailed Rodney Hide suggesting he might like to look into writing a driver for his 120GB external drive :waughh:I think that was the person "david@tokyo" who made that comment about the driver, and not Rodney Hide. However, I would of thought an external drive wouldn't need a special driver if it is USB or Firewire if it had been enabled in the kernel? It might of been newbie confusion chucked in for good measure. :p Jen (38)
399056 2005-10-26 05:55:00 More like ditching MS than going to Open Source. Jeremy (1197)

Are you just.

Doh! You are right Jen. I have a "cheap" usb hard drive which XP refused to recognise until I loaded the supplied driver. I suspect if XP has trouble it could be a complete non starter for Linux (I must try that drive on Linux and see anyway).

399059 2005-10-27 08:25:00 well, personally, im not biased, but i see that moving towards os is a very viable approach. seeing as linux, if rolled out correctly in a corporate environment is much more reliable, less prone to virus's, cheaper, (ever heard the story of microsoft being given the instruction of secure the nz government contract no matter what the cost????), plus, software such as for DHB's can be specifically written to fully interact with the linux system, its much much better, plus we need to stop supporting ms, its b$, linux can do the same job as windows Tux (606)
