398585 2005-10-23 19:55:00 Way back in the distant past I decided to get om the internet.
I bought a nice new HP Pentium to celebrate my decision. I was fed up with my PC Direct 486.
With my new PC was a disk that set me up for internet with Telecom. I ran the disk and filled in the form. I selected the "unlimited use" option and in half an hour was up and running.
Lots of fun for a month. Then the phone bill arrived!
I was on a limited plan and had to pay extra over whatever the limit was.
I owed them about $400 !!!!!
Now the fun starts.
Ring telecom. Wait a minimum of half an hour to speak to anyone. Then told them they had made a mistake.
"We don't make mistakes". was the answer I got. "You signed up with a disk that gave you a free connection. Therefore you are on the limited plan. We don't care wether you ticked the unlimited box or not"

I told them to sue me for their bill. "No we won't sue. We will just disconnect your phone"

Anyway after a couple of weeks of phone calls. All with the statuatory half an hour on hold. I cancelled my internet account. Told them what I thought of them and hung up.

Next step was to phone HP to tell them what I thought of their free internet connection. Their attitude was amazing. All apologies. "pack of bastards" was the nicest thing they said about telecom. "Don't worry we'll fix it".

Ten minutes later I got a phone call from telecom. All apologies, and a lot of rubbish about mistakes by junior staff. My bill was cancelled.
And they would re-connect my internet with no charge to me.

I politely said thank you but don't bother re-connecting me. And hung up.

Real nice people at Telecom

398587 2005-10-23 20:25:00 ...
....Telecom is a monopoly by nature, and as such handing it to any one power in total, provides absolute power, and that can only lead to one thing.

398588 2005-10-23 20:26:00 Careful Jack :p

Resurrecting and reliving grievances from the distant past is not only a sign of advancing years, it also causes wars, peacekeeping invasions and treaty settlements.

Surely you have a current grievance with which you can ease the tedium of yet another Monday full of our unfulfilled dreams?

Cheers

398589 2005-10-23 20:26:00 I've lost count of the number of times Telecom have stuffed around with simple jobs or have billed me incorrectly. It's a pain because, like you say, you get stuck on hold for ages trying to fix the stupid problem.
Telecom are an expensive bunch of idiots who take their customers for granted. Until there's some competition, they won't change their spots overnight.

398590 2005-10-23 20:58:00 Resurrecting and reliving grievances from the distant past is not only a sign of advancing years, it also causes wars, peacekeeping invasions and treaty settlements.I agree. Why start posting/complaining about a really old, and should be long forgotten problem? If the machine was a 486, then that shows just how far back in time this occured.

Live and let live I say.

BTW, I merged your duplicate threads you made on this topic. :)
