674472 2008-06-01 06:18:00 Yeah it's a DVD drive. Get someone to take a look at it to confirm, but in my humble opinion it's stuffed. Erayd (23)
674473 2008-06-01 06:23:00 And new ones are really cheap. So if the drive is stuffed, it'll only cost you around $40-$50 to get it fixed. beeswax34 (63)
674474 2008-06-01 06:54:00 I've got a stuffed dvd drive which also generally doesn't notice dvd discs. Leaving the dvd in the drive and restarting windows generally (but not always) works.

Where can you get a decent dvd drive for $40-$50? I'd like to follow that up. Are they DVD- RW?

674475 2008-06-01 07:04:00 You could try and flash the drive, Otherwise as Bletch says, Your best option is to replace it.

A quick look at qmb shows DVD writers starting from $35, Plus GST.

That looks like a normal dvd/cd, not a DVD / CD burner .

If you want to write to DVD-RW, you'll need a DVD burner, not just a DVD .

Which only reads / plays DVD, it doesnt write / burn to DVD

But this DVD will play DVD-RW
