399296 2005-10-30 20:26:00 Westpac's on-line saver and bonus saver accounts are pretty good, if you are in the happy position of being able to leave money in them for a while or even add to it regularly. The on-line saver is magnificently convenient. I do all my banking over the 'net and have never had any problems. And if you are employed by the Gummint they have even more special deals... k8smum (6062)
399297 2005-10-30 21:44:00 I use National Bank, after they bought out Countrywide. I haven't had many problems with them, but reckon their student package has to be the best. When I started studying in 1997, I moved over to a no-fees package, and enjoyed the benefits for the seven years I was at uni. Interest-free overdraft of $1000 while studying. Same for first year of graduate package. Low-interest loan of up to $5000 while studying, and then up to $10,000 on the graduate package. Graduate package lasts for five years after graduating. Fixed-fees package of $10 (now moved up to $12) includes all internet/phone banking and e-transactions, and now covers manual transactions as well.

The miinor glitches over the last 10 years have always been fixed within hours, without fuss. Agree that the delays in getting reference information on internet banking is a hassle, and delays in clearing funds can be frustrating.

For a student, with no major banking requirements (i.e. current account/savings account), wouldn't hesistate to recommend NBNZ.

399298 2005-10-31 22:23:00 i think HSBC is very good too..

i joined them this year especially with that online saving account

u get your cheque books (cheque duty fees additional and is required to pay)
minimum $3000 and can earning 6.45% interest
no transaction fees and no monthly fees
no additional fees as well

but the sad thing is, no, i think HSBC is the only bank doesn't have a credit card.. which it is weird. kiwibank can have credit card, surely HSBC bank (a large corporation around the world) can have the credit card as well.. :annoyed: :groan:
