398201 2005-10-22 21:43:00 Well I just need Broadband mainly for Gaming and Limewire... $70 a month plan Mr Wetzyl (362)
398202 2005-10-22 23:01:00 I know a couple of people that don't even have internet access at home, they manage to do or their downloading and surfing while at work.

That’s Good for some people but there is some people like me who work from home.

I also think the people on the forum complaining about the price probably live outside the 3 main centres and don't have a great choice

I live in one of these main centres, & where I am (In south Auckland) we can only get Woosh/ Telecom ADSL & wired country (Just in range for that)

398204 2005-10-23 05:52:00 Maybe I've missed something, but skimming through this thread it still is not clear to me what broadband costs in other countries e.g. Oz, USA and UK. Anyone know? Is it much less than the $30 - $40 per month we pay for the cheaper end of NZ broadband (which evidently is not all that fast compared to overseas). Strommer (42)
398205 2005-10-23 08:14:00 Overseas, it's only slightly cheaper, but it's faster and no caps. See my earlier example with Telewest and Telecom comparison, and how britan for the same price gets 2x downstream, 4x upstream and no cap

Let's look at another example, and for this I'll use my friend AdamR (personal.adamreyher.com/). He lives in Tampa, Florida, and for $64 NZ (According to www.xe.com) he gets a 15mbit u/d fibre connection with Verizon phone. for the same price I get a 2mbit/128kb u/d DSL connection with a 11gb cap, phoneline extra. Why? Competition. In europe and america, there is no one company that dictates eveything. Heck, Hong Kong gets a 1gbit connection for sub $140NZ ;_;

398206 2005-10-23 09:08:00 What is it with all you apologists for Telecom? You own shares? Sure we have less density in our pop and all that, sure we can go out and smell the mountains and play with the girls at the beach but we still have a monopoly controlling the last 1.6 kilometers.

All this argy-bargy back and forwards but telecom still sux. :waughh:

Yes. And if Telstra was the dominant supplier they'd suck too. It's the same with Microsoft. In fact, to the whingers in this country, the biggest company in any area sucks. it's extremely childish and tiresome. :groan:

I agree. Those big companies should not be allowed to behave like that. They are the bullies in the school playground. :D
