674107 2008-05-31 00:17:00 Ive got a usb floppy for those ummmm modern pc's it comes in very handy it is used dayly where I work.

Gpart is the bootable cd of choice of mine for wiping and modifing partitions and is freely downloadable.

BTW this virus is very cleanable and I wouldn't say the its worst out there, Ive come across some pretty unfriendly ones, more so than this one.

674109 2008-05-31 01:36:00 Yes there is a program called Vundo Fix. I used it to get rid of it.

674110 2008-05-31 02:09:00 As I said in my first post, I do not want any programs because they simply do NOT work. I tried both of those you put there but with very unsurprising results: they didn't work.

All I am focused on now is to properly format my computer, which is not letting me.

You have told me what the motherboard is but do you have a CD or DVD drive and if so do you have all CD/DVDs that came with your computer? What operating system? Do you have a CD/DVD containing the operating system?

Is the BIOS set to boot off CD/DVD? Is this a brand name computer and there may be a hidden partition on the hard drive?

674111 2008-05-31 02:15:00 BUT as speedy mentioned somethings more than likely screwed if it wont boot from the windows CD. One reason could be a dud CD.

At this time I do not even know if the original poster even has a bootable CD or DVD with the O/S he/she wants to install after formatting.

Read what Bantu said in Post 2 then the reply in Post 4

Put in your Windows XP CD or Vista CD and then Reboot. You will get to a point on the restart to Hit a key to Boot from the CD.
I've tried that, and I do get a "press any key to boot from CD/DVD" if there was no optical drive what would the Windows XP CD be booting from ?

674113 2008-05-31 03:30:00 Alright, yeah I've got a Lite-On DVD/CD drive, I use Windows XP. This computer was built by myself, I have all the disks I need because I set it up all by myself. Yes the BIOS menu is set to boot from CD ROM, but my problem is it will go to the screen and say: "Press any button to boot from CD ROM" and I will hit a key (i've tried many) and it will act like my computer does not see my keyboard, althought before this I can hit the DEL key and enter BIOS and what not.

Trev - VundoFix only works around %40 of the time, and I am pretty sure it works for the original Vundo Trojan and Vundo.B, and when you reboot your computer its back again.

I do not know why it won't let me simply format my computer, makes no sense.

Please respond.

If its a USb you may have to attach a PS2 and enter the BIOS then check the USB keyboard & mouse is enabled, or try another USB port.

From what you said it sounds like the keyboard is not being detected till after it boots, especially when booting from a CD first.

If you will - can you try something please - Reboot the PC, keep hitting the F8 Key, see if it comes up with a window that allows you to boot into various options. If it does / Doesnt come back and advice please.

674115 2008-05-31 03:49:00 F8 is used for Safe Mode Correct? I've tried that for another solution but it does not pop up,right now I will try to see if USB keyboard is enabled, if not, I think I have an old PS2 keyboard around here, much thanks! sxrsil3nt (13812)
674116 2008-05-31 04:03:00 In your BIOS set all your options to CD/DVD so it does not look for a hard drive or floppy drive maybe.

When you get "press any key to boot from CD/DVD" then if nothing is happening then maybe it is not seeing your keyboard.

I did find a couple of times that mine did not see a USB keyboard and I plugged in an old PS/2 keyboard and it went fine.

At worst you can use a boot floppy to delete and re-create the partition then format it, but it will only format it to Fat32. Once you install windows you can change it to NTFS. It is a longer process than using the CD to boot and format, but it would work just as well.

I always have a boot floppy disk with a few extra tools on it for this purpose or for older computers.
