674764 2008-06-01 11:52:00 Windows XP XP2.
I recently installed a new printer and the computer won't boot if the printer is already on. Is there a setting that I can change or do I have to ensure the printer is off before starting the computer.

Windows XP SP2

674765 2008-06-01 11:56:00 Does the printer have a card reader on it?? If it does, is there a memory card in it??

If there is, take it out

And is the hdd the boot disk in the BIOS?

674766 2008-06-01 12:09:00 I have the same problem when my Sony video camera is connected to my computer.

It's only an issue if I have to reboot while I've got it connected, but I'll try taking the card out next time and see what happens.

674767 2008-06-01 12:10:00 The printer has memory card slots but no card that I can see.
To check if the hdd is the boot disk do I need to do this when I start the computer. Is that the only way to check the BIOS?

Yup thats the only way. You have to get into the BIOS, before you get into windows

Usually by pressing the Del key after you reboot. Or it could be F1/F2/F10

674769 2008-06-01 12:19:00 Ok I'll do that now. And....... dopey me, of course there was no memory card in the printer, I didn't put one in. I only have a camera and connect it via the lead thing, USB?? bellbird (6169)
674770 2008-06-01 12:35:00 Can you be a little more specific about what you mean by it wont boot? eg does it blue screen, does it say that it can't find the operating system or invalid boot disk, can you get into safe mode? kevyalex (7334)

674772 2008-06-02 04:07:00 Speedy, I had trouble seeing which key to press to get into BIOS as the choices disappear so quickly. Anyway i got into it today but what to do now. Do I select the BOOT tab and if so what do I do next. Thanks to others for their input. bellbird (6169)
674773 2008-06-02 04:14:00 Make sure the hdd is the first boot device thats selected under the boot menu then save the bios settings. Then reboot Speedy Gonzales (78)
