674097 2008-05-30 22:40:00 Good evening .

I need help on how to format my computer because I cannot figure out how to do it on my computer .

The reasoning behind me NEEDING to format it is because my brother downloaded some sort of video codec that gave us the Trojan Horse Vundo . J . If you aren't familiar with this trojan, the Vundo series are one of the most malicious ones out there, regular virus scans will pick it up, but none will cure it . Now I do not want any suggestions on how to get rid of it, because it's simply impossible and it would waste more time . I've tried hours on end to try and remove it and it will not work .

I am this close to smashing my computer, and I cannot figure out how to format it . :badpc: I have formatted my other computer before it was extremely simple, all I had to do was insert my Windows XP disk and BAM! it gave me the option to format it .

I have the Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H ( . gigabyte . com . tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_Model . aspx?ProductID=2579" target="_blank">www . gigabyte . com . tw) Motherboard model and I cannot figure out how to format it . I need to wipe my hardrive in other words and I cannot seem how to do it .

For the record it has taken me almost 42 minutes to write this message because the trojan would keep closing this browser, or sending me to some random site . Help would be greatly appreciated .

Thanks,
sxr .

674098 2008-05-30 22:47:00 When you start the computer hit Delete Key to go into BIOS.
Locate the Boot Sequence and change it to see the CD-Rom First.
Put in your Windows XP CD or Vista CD and then Reboot. You will get to a point on the restart to Hit a key to Boot from the CD.

Assuming that all works fine follow through and you can delete the Partition with Windows on and recreate a partition from there. Install Windows and it gives you the option to Format then.

Make sure you have all your Drivers for Hardware ready and have backed up anything you need.

674099 2008-05-30 23:05:00 Or try rogueremover (www.majorgeeks.com)

Or trojan remover (www.simplysup1.com)

These are direct links, since your browser keeps on closing

Install and update both, then click on scan. Then select all options under utilities in trojan remover

674100 2008-05-30 23:05:00 I've tried that, and I do get a "press any key to boot from CD/DVD" and I'll press a key, and it does not work... Just boots straight from my HD and straight to the login screen. It doesn't make any sense. sxrsil3nt (13812)
674101 2008-05-30 23:07:00 See if the 2 links / files I posted remove it Speedy Gonzales (78)
674102 2008-05-30 23:23:00 As I said in my first post, I do not want any programs because they simply do NOT work . I tried both of those you put there but with very unsurprising results: they didn't work .

All I am focused on now is to properly format my computer, which is not letting me .

674103 2008-05-30 23:28:00 The Vundo trojan can be removed, just needs specialized removal software and the knowledge on how to remove it. BUT if you want to format, that certainly is one way of removing it.

If the PC wont boot correctly from the Windows CD, download Nuke & boot (http://dban.sourceforge.net/) it boots from a CD, then gives you the options to wipe the drive. Do you have a floppy drive in this PC ?

674104 2008-05-30 23:28:00 Well if u did it like what u posted, and it doesnt work, something is screwed. Speedy Gonzales (78)
674105 2008-05-30 23:41:00 No no, no floppy drive. Those are ancient :P Why do you ask? sxrsil3nt (13812)
674106 2008-05-30 23:51:00 No no, no floppy drive . Those are ancient :P Why do you ask? Simple really - Just because something is OLD Eg: floppy drive doesnt mean its not useful, if you had a floppy drive you could make a boot floppy , wipe the drive within about 15- 20 seconds then format it .

Floppy drives still do have their places . People who work with PC's like myself, speedy and many others here use different resources to fix / repair problems, NEW is NOT always better .

What you can also do is download Ultimate boot CD (http://www . ultimatebootcd . com/) - go to the site and if you scroll trough you will see many tools for wiping, formatting etc, safes downloading the whole CD .

BUT as speedy mentioned somethings more than likely screwed if it wont boot from the windows CD . One reason could be a dud CD .
