| 398446 | 2005-10-22 20:10:00 | On September 27th I sent the local paper Central Leader (Auckland) by Email, a story and was printed just over a week ago on the 14th October. With talk on carless days a couple of weeks ago, due to higher oil cost. Why not work a average 40 hour week or should I say a 80 hour fortnight, working almost 9 hour day, 9 day fortnight some workers might not be unable to change their working hours, but then others will, in the hope it might broaden the rush hour and flatten it, making traffic movement on the roads better. Some companies might choose to close down or partly close down one day a fortnight without any business loss, others might prefer to open ten days a fortnight (with the effect of one in ten staff throwing a sicky each day) giving their customers a extra hour a day extended service, I would not notice a extra hour at work each day but would love that extra day off each fortnight to get a life away from work. The whole scheme would only be limited by individual companies imagination to think outside the square. The printed letter had a couple of changes, odd, but different, It seems the shops were thinking along the same line, www.nzherald.co.nz GREAT !!! Soon we will be moving rush hour traffic in Auckland city from 5pm to 6:30 as also shoppers join the traffic cues going home after they have done their shopping after work. |

| 398447 | 2005-10-23 01:21:00 | The traffic problems in Auckland are easily solved. Just cut a 20 metre long section out of the centre of that bridge. Cars going out of the city: Splash, splash, splash. Cars coming in: Splash, splash, splash. It wouldn't take too many days to sort it all out. |

Great idea Graham, and we'll block both portals to the Lyttleton tunnel and plant demolition charges at 50 metre intervals over the road route as well. In Wellington we can forget Transmission Gully, just barricade off all routes in from the north, and cut off the rail links while we are at it. Mining the runway at Wellington airport would complete the job and then we'd be free of both cars and those pesky pedestrians, and politicians as well. Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die. :p Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 398453 | 2005-11-05 23:13:00 | Nah, you can't get rid of us Jafas beetle, Auckland is the engineroom of the national economy. It would still be the Capital too, if it hadn't been for the flamin' aussies who shifted it to Wellington! Apparently travelling up by sea was too much for their delicate constitutions. Cheers Billy 8-{) :D The Governors of New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania were asked each to appoint one commissioner for the purpose of determining the best site in Cook Strait. These gentlemen, having made a personal inspection of all suitable places, arrived at the unanimous decision that "Wellington in Port Nicholson was the site upon the shores of Cook Strait which presented the greatest advantages for the administration of the Government of the Colony". The seat of government was therefore, in accordance with the recommendation of the commissioners, removed to Wellington in 1865. |
