675492 2008-06-04 08:46:00 I have a Toshiba laptop. The screen image began 'jumping' and flickering a few days ago... Today, I can only see a very faint image (almost dark). Computer is working fine using another monitor attached. Just wondering if anyone has an idea of what has happened, and if it can be repaired (is it worth repairing?). Any idea on cost of repair?

Thank you for your help!

675494 2008-06-04 21:45:00 Backlight on LCD died.

Rather common, and can be quite expencive to fix.

If you can find a dead similar model lappy with the same size screen, you can switch the LCD panel over, but it's not for the faint hearted.

Normally it's not worth fixing.

Cheers.

675496 2008-06-05 03:39:00 I got a cheap laptop off trademe that had a stuffed motherboard and took the screen off that.

Same make/model it worked fine. Then sold off all the bits and someone else did the same for some other laptop part after that.

675500 2008-06-05 05:29:00 If it's only the backlight and if the specs are decent enough, why not make it a home theatre type pc? It's small form and low noise might make it worthwhile. bob_doe_nz (92)
