675461 2008-06-04 07:19:00 Hiya, pple say HD TV is the best thing since color tv's were introduced so ..

If one wants to go the computer route, one needs? Is it a HD tv tuner card/capture card with the HD Freeview deck, HD computer LCD screen?

Computers is/was better than the TV CRT screens in the past, has it been now you need a HD computer LCD screen to play even with HD TV's, or how good are the CRT computer screens like Trinitron or typical LCD's?

Thanks.

675462 2008-06-04 19:47:00 Lots of threads on here on this topic Nomad.

HDTV on a PC: TV Capture Card, UHF Aerial, no need for a Freeview Box.
Most TV Cards come with software but as with a lot of stuff the bundled software is basic and does not always work how you would expect it to.

A few Geekzone threads worthwhile.

If you are prepared to spend time with the Computer updating the software regularly, particularly for the EPG then go down this route.

If not, then the easiest way buy far is a UHF Aerial and a HD Freeview box hooked up to your new HDTV.

Sky goes HD on 1st of July, for best results from Sky channels then probably a MySky 2 HD decoder/Recorder.

675463 2008-06-04 22:12:00 If you're just using it as a computer monitor, you'd be best to get a PC LCD screen rather than a HD TV. They're a lot cheaper for one thing & the picture on the PC monitor will be better - 24" LCD screen will do 1080i/p, anything less will usually be 720i/p.

If you need a TV though, you can do as Bantu suggested & set up an HDTV box.

675464 2008-06-05 03:21:00 I've got 2 pc's working with freeview, but it's a hassle. If you're prepared to put the time & research in it works well. If not wait a few months until suppliers get the included software sorted out so you can buy an "out of the box" solution.

A set top box is far easier for the average home user.

Are there HD capture/TV cards? If the aerial or freeview box is HD but the comptuer card is not HD but just ordinary what happens?

For the screen, if LCD would be the way to go, would computer type HD LCD like from Samsung or such, would that push the bar even higher?
