675072 2008-06-02 21:00:00 Hi

I was thinking of flashing my level 1 router for that router

I see their features on their website but it seems as though its like any ordinary firmware.

Although there are things like QOS bandwith management.Thats suppose to restrict the amount of bandwith right?

So basically I am on a torrent plan for Xnet and my friend is downloading crazy at night making my connection to the point where I'm uploading files at sendpsace at 500bytes so I thought maybe the DDR-WRT firmware has some kind of bandwith graph thing in the firmware itself that allows me to see how much is a person using thru my wireless router.

Also the QOS bandwith management.I can limit someone's upload and download speed to a given speed correcT?

Lastly.

I have a level 1 WBR-5406TX router

and I see the download page www.dd-wrt.com

Which file am I suppose to download?Their help page is so long doesn't make much sense

Has anyone had experience using this that can teach me how it goes?

675073 2008-06-02 21:04:00 I've used DD-WRT for some time now.

The QoS seems to work ok, but note that all it does is manage the priority of packets - so you can set torrent data for example to super-low priority, which means that web browsing, email, etc. will take precedent, and in theory be faster.

Currently, DD-WRT does not show how much data an individual user has used.

Secondly, have you checked whether your router is supported? Have a look on the DD-WRT website for compatible routers, and it should also have a "suggestion" as to which version you should download and flash with. Remember that not all routers can be flashed to DD-WRT.

I looked at the compatible and uncompatible list and both do not have my router or even brand listed

675075 2008-06-03 09:37:00 Have you looked at Tomato?

www.polarcloud.com/tomato

Not sure if it supports your router though.

675076 2008-06-03 10:55:00 How do I use the tomato firmware?

I would have chosen the 3rd party firmware tomato.trx but my router says its incorrect file name.Isn't it suppose to be a .bin file?

675077 2008-06-03 10:59:00 DDR-WRT has so much firmware files I don't know which one to use.

and the tomato firmware has WRL.....bin files which are for buffalo and linksys routers.

Isn't there one I can use?

675078 2008-06-03 12:14:00 It is supposed to be a .bin file.

I dont have winzip so I can't open the 7z file from Tomato so can you post a screenshot of the files in that zip. folder?

675080 2008-06-03 13:08:00 Does this help:

If you can't find a file to exact match for your router (and your router is supported by Tomato -- check!), *choose any* of the file. You can also try renaming the .TRX file to .BIN to see if that helps. Don't worry, the header/signatures are different for each file, but the are exactly the same when installed.

675081 2008-06-03 13:11:00 I read somewhere online that the tomato.trx is for other routers so I guess I'll use that Ninjabear (2948)
