674990 2008-06-02 09:14:00 I was having trouble viewing PDF's after I upgraded to athe 2008 version of Acrobat Reader. My computer just locked up and I had to turn it off & restart. So I uninstalled this version using Add/remove programs in Control Panel and reinstalled Version 5. This has not worked and on opening PDF's they open in 2008 PDF Wizzard and the computer locks up. I have to open Reader Version 5 then use the file/open to read my PDF's.
Does anyone know of a way to rid my computer of this 2008 version. Thanks for any advice David

If all you want to do is read PDF files

674992 2008-06-02 09:30:00 Thanks for that Speedy. But my point is that I have uninstalled the 2008 version but it is still there. How & why has this happened? David DavidW (532)
674993 2008-06-02 09:35:00 Try this ( . mvps . org/autoplayhandlers . htm" target="_blank">windowsxp . mvps . org)

It doesnt install, just extract it then run it .

Click on the Abobe 2008 entries (if theyre there), and click on delete .

It'll create a registry backup, just delete it . Then see what happens

All this program does is remove invalid entries

Or if that doesnt work, right mouse on the PDF file / open with / choose program, and select the other program, and tick the bottom option, always use the selected program .

674994 2008-06-02 09:53:00 Fantastic. The 2008 version did not show up in the 'clean handlers' program but your Rt mouse etc has solved the problem! Thanks, David DavidW (532)
674995 2008-06-02 10:05:00 Cool !

Is the folder for Adobe reader 2008 still in program files?

If it is if there's nothing in it, delete it .

Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data, if there's a folder here for it delete it .

And do the same for C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data, and C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data

Then if you've got ccleaner run it click on registry / scan for issues . Delete everything that comes up

Then go to the cleaner tab and click on run cleaner (close browsers first)

674996 2008-06-02 23:38:00 Great. Found one reference to Reader 8 in C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data and deleted it. So now the programme has been laid to rest. Thanks again David DavidW (532)
