674867 2008-06-02 04:16:00 I have XP Home sp3 on a home pc with 1 administrator user account and 4 resticted user accounts. When I try to Logon to my administrator account I get this Logon Message
"The system cannot log you on due to the following error.
Unable to repeat the requested operation because of either
a catastrophic media failure or a data corruption on the disk."
Back at the Logon screen get
" Did you forget your password"
None of the restricted accounts has this problem. 2 have passwords 2 dont.
This happened about a year ago and I did a clean reinstal which lasted until about 3 weeks ago. I did another clean reinstal and disk check with no bad sectors or disk errors but back to the same problem.
I tried Safe Mode but still unable to log onto the Administrator or my own account. My files are hidden from the other users and i cant instal or delete any programs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. XP Home sp3, Avg free 8,
Zonealarm free

674868 2008-06-02 06:41:00 You don't seem to be getting a rush of assistance, but it is a holliday after all.
If you google "catastrophic media failure or a data corruption on the disk" you will see a reference to curing a problem similar to yours.
But seeing this is the 3rd time you have had it you will also have to find what or who is causing it.
I see you have at least 5 users for this system but as it is only with your account chances are it is you that is doing/causing it.
I don't know if this is any help to you, someone else may add some more to this now.
