400912 2005-10-31 05:46:00 I've heard the police are raiding movie pirates all over the country tonight & some of them will be shown live on campbell live. Do you think you are on the list?

The campbell live teaser for tonight is:
HUNTING DOWN THE DVD PIRATES
Hollywood is about to make its first DVD piracy bust in New Zealand….About one in ten DVDs in this country are illegally downloaded but does piracy just mean a cheap seat at the movies or is it a serious breach of copyright?

I think that their answer to that question will be a bit biased if they are showing the raids live.

400913 2005-10-31 05:53:00 i wonder how they would of tracked them down..... Prescott (11)
400914 2005-10-31 06:01:00 How can it be a live raid if advance noticed has been plastered all over the airways?

Unless of course this is all part of the grand plan to spook the backyard DVD rippers into destroying all stock and evidential machinery in case there is a knock on their door tonight ... :p

400915 2005-10-31 06:23:00 Just watched it, fluff piece at best, and the guy monitering our downloads was cornered with a single question.

Anyhow, Im gonna get back to downloading movies.

Oh wait, they all suck.

400917 2005-10-31 06:48:00 That sucked. there weren't any live raids. I might do some research into the program he uses. What was it called?

I'll bet simply compressing the file will defeat his program.

400918 2005-10-31 07:06:00 Program he used was Pirate Hunter... bet it only covers P2P and not the newsgroups which remain basically unmentioned!

Metla - what question was he cornered with? I didn't quite get that part.

Lo.

Interesting.
So are they trying to bust anyone downloading a movie, or just people selling them on? Or both?

Oh - I don't see how so many 'DVDs' can be downloaded. 1 DVD = 4.7GB. On most broadband connections in NZ, that means busting your data cap pretty quickly or spending about a week downloading it.

400920 2005-10-31 08:01:00 OMG I mite be a pirate too!!! Cos I download lots of Limewire mp3s.... Mr Wetzyl (362)
400921 2005-10-31 08:03:00 They are after the distributors of the pirated movies. Local markets and online selling etc of the DVD's. One guy who got nabbed said that his supplier could burn 20 DVD's simultaneously. Jen (38)
