400085 2005-10-28 21:07:00 Just for laughs here, I c/p'd this for youse guys:

Stephen Michael Cohen , who has already served several US prison stints for bank fraud and forgery, has traded a Mexican mansion for a room in the old graybar hotel .

Cohen, who fled the country back in 2001 after being convicted of hijacking the Internet address sex . com, was arrested by Mexican authorities in Tijuana ( . latimes . com/news/nationworld/world/la-fi-sex28oct28,0,4207242 . story?coll=la-story-footer&track=morenews" target="_blank">www . latimes . com) His apprehension may finally bring an end to one of the seamier disputes in Internet legal history .

A bit of background: ( . wired . com/news/print/0,1294,19140,00 . html" target="_blank">www . wired . com) In 1994 entrepreneur Gary Kremen ( . wired . com/wired/archive/3 . 09/scans . html?pg=7" target="_blank">www . wired . com) registered the sex . com domain with Network Solutions (NSI) . He did nothing with the domain, sitting on what would soon become one of the most lucrative pieces of real estate in the early Web landscape .

Then, in October of 1995, Cohen . . . . . . . . . . . . . . just off a 47 month prison sentence for grand theft and check kiting . . . . . . . . . . . . ginned up a phony memo from Kremen's company instructing NSI to transfer ownership of sex . com to Cohen . NSI did just that and Cohen quickly developed the domain into a garish, and extraordinarily profitable, porn site .

When Kremen discovered what had happened, he sued Cohen . . . . . . . . . . who brazenly fought back with a ferocity that tied the matter up in court for years . Kremen won the domain back in 2000 and was awarded a $65 million court judgment against Cohen in 2001 . Cohen fled the country, taking up residence in a Tijuana mansion . Occasionally, when the mood struck him, he would call up Kremen and harass him . And that was where the story sat until Cohen's apprehension Thursday .

Now there's a new episode to be written, this one closer to "Prison Break" than "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous . "
