400932 2005-10-31 21:01:00 Hmmm........No matter how many passes or the codecs used the act of compression is still removing Data and it shows in the end product, I would still call it not of watchable quality......This relates to the level of detail, frame rate and audio. Metla (12)
400933 2005-11-01 05:38:00 Noo... This is _very_ watchable!

I'll post later on tonight :)

400934 2005-11-01 05:44:00 Your going to upload 2 hours of footage compressed into 700mb?

Oh, the torture test is playback on my projector......

400935 2005-11-01 05:45:00 Oh, the torture test is playback on my projector...... ... or watching 2 hours of Chill's home movies :p Jen (38)
400936 2005-11-01 07:23:00 Yeah but just WHAT is he doing in this home movie? :p  :dogeye: EX-WESTY (221)
400937 2005-11-01 08:56:00 This is a 1:05 minute clip. I Googled and found a .vob file (140-odd megs) and converted it to this smaller .mp4 file

Let me know what you think of the quality Metla:

400938 2005-11-01 09:15:00 140mb file down to a 7mb file, impressive. havent seen the quality yet though.... Prescott (11)
400939 2005-11-01 09:47:00 Its watchable, You can hear and see the effects of the compression(looking really closely), Though their is no pixilation or obvious ghosting, But this is to be expected with modern techniques/codecs (at least if the person doing the job isn't blind)

Trying to shrink a 2+ hour movie down to CD size would take away the headroom though, and bring all the nasty effects in (that movie for example if it ran for 2 hours and was compressed at that level would come in at over 850mb) and it had the added bonus of a very light audio track.

anyhow, Where was I...

Oh yeah, Unwatchable, I wont be moved from my original position.......Muhahahahaha, where is that delete key?

Recent movies I have seen (uh...at a buds house) that suffered terribly from compression.

Dukes of Hazard
Blade:Trinity
Team America

What did you use Chilly, That fancy Nero digital encoder?
Metla (12)
400940 2005-11-01 10:05:00 Yeah, Nero Recode! Its an mpeg4 compliant file, not the higher quality (Slower encoding) NeroDigital codec.

Most things I re-encode are between 700 - 950kbps for 1 1/2 hrs - 2hrs. Anything thats going to be longer than 2 hours and I'll set it to the rate of 933kbps :)

I believe I did that one at approx 800kbps as a "middle-of-the-road" example.

Yes, the effects are possible to see, but throw that on your TV from your Xbox and it looks great! All the family videos are now on the Xbox, rather than deteriorating on VHS tape.

C'mon... its not bad, is it :) Honestly!?!
