399820 2005-10-28 05:36:00 Agree with all those points, it's just another Americanism that must have come here at some time . Never heard of "trick or treat" in UK, at least not south of a line Birmingham to the Wash :)

Check your UK histories . . . the Druids were the first to employ this bizarre celebration, in defiance of the Roman Catholic priests who tried to (unsuccessfully) eliminate the practices of burning and murdering their children . The Druids were, as history has confirmed from the Brittish Isles . The Roman Catholic Church then inculcated after cleaning up the child-sacriifices of the Druid demonisms into an acceptable, nay approved practice in order to not lose too many followers and to make the transition to the "New Faith" a little easier . The life and times of Saint (sic) Patrick are all about this dark history according to a series I recently attended from the BBC Educational Network, broadcast here in the US on PBS television as college credits in Social Anthropology .

All Souls' Night, and Hollowed'een transmorphed into Halloween and it has been nothing other than a sell-out by polluted 4th century so-called christendom (little "c") ever since . This is also the basis for the Easter (Oester, as in the term - sunrise from the East) Sunworshipping Mass by the RCC in defiance of the scriptural condemnation of deifying anything on earth, the heavens or beneath . Sun worship (Isis and Osirus, Mother dei and Mother Of God beginnings also came from Druids and Babylon with the deification of Nimrod, who sodomized his mother, thereby making him his own father and brother . . part of the "mysterious trinity" that no-one can understand nor can substantiate from scripture) .

Yup . . it's an old hat . . . paganism in the form of acceptable and cute kiddies in costumes being taught that demons and witchcraft are neat and not dangerous; and the parents sell them out to demons . :annoyed:

399821 2005-10-28 06:39:00 Yes Joe, I accept that, and Safaris comments too, what I said was I had never heard of "Trick or Treat" in the UK, that is, the expression Trick or Treat, can't say it in any plainer way.

(But don't take digs at Americana too seriously, it's all a bit of fun, I mean what would we do without American music; Rhythm Saved The World)

But at least in the Midlands where I grew up we never ever had children dressing up and coming around begging on Halloween.

Intead we made Guy Fawks 'Guys' and asked for a penny for the Guy.

These sorts of Halloween things as far as I know may be practised further north in the UK, and maybe in some of the country areas, but is certainly not widespread by any means as it is here or as in the US.
It is very unlikely that Halloween Trick or Treats came here from the UK, and it is much more likely from the US. Fathers Day is another American import.

Down in Devon, or at least the South Hams, the children make or used to make Jack O' Lanterns from swedes, and have a bonfire on the beach.

What's wrong with paganism? And how can demons be dangerous? They don't exist!

And Witchcraft is no more harmful than Christianity, in fact I'd say a lot less harmful .

No . of Christians killed by Witches - hardly any .
No . of Witches killed by Christians - heaps .

Lighten up, Halloween it's just a bit of fun . At least it doesn't scare the animals like that stupid Guy Fawkes rubbish .

399827 2005-10-28 19:54:00 Who cares where it come from, just a bit of fun, same as Guyfawkes day, Christmas, Easter, who realy gives a schite how they come about.

Halloween = Lollies
Christmas = Presents
Easter = Chocolate eggs
Guy fawks = Fire works

If there are any more fun days celibrated around the world I say we pick these up too. Lifes too short.

Yes indeed. Life is short, and full of far too much negativity and bah-hum-bug people. Bring on fun and happiness!

As Mackin rightly puts it:
"Lighten up, Halloween it's just a bit of fun."

...and Mackin goes on with even more truth:

And Witchcraft is no more harmful than Christianity, in fact I'd say a lot less harmful.
