| 400234 | 2005-10-29 22:38:00 | Thanks. So MANY satellites to choose from! Cannot see any named Kiwisat or Ozsat, so does anyone know which one is for our region? Surprising to see city lights! www.fourmilab.ch Scroll down to Optus satellites....thats our region and also check the image res below to say 1024 pixels... |

| 400236 | 2005-10-30 02:05:00 | I think the difference between this and google earth is that these satellites are really showing images in real time...and are in orbit...interesting to see which part of earth is night time... Where does it say that the images are in real time? I don't think so. Look at the Optus images, e.g., notice that there are no clouds. The images appear to be composites that omit clouds so that nothing is obstructed. This does appear below the satellite choice menu: "Orbital elements as of 2005 October 28 12:45 UTC" ....but what does this mean? For the entire earth view to be devoid of clouds is very improbable. [edit] This appears near the top of the page: "The satellite database is updated regularly but may not reflect the current position of satellites" ...I have tried about 8 different satellites and none show clouds. Also, the city lights look quite suspicious. Have a look: www.fourmilab.ch ... someone must have added the white dots... |
