399551 2005-10-27 23:07:00 hey Blenheim has a great second hand / antique store, on the main road to Picton, north of Blenheim.

Well worth checking out, all sorts of oddities there.

399553 2005-10-28 07:49:00 Give me a call before you travel and I'll knock a few together for you. Anything to oblige. Scouse (83)
399554 2005-10-29 06:19:00 Tony, you must have more money than you know what to do with. If you buy wine at the wineries you will pay absolutely top price. Good for them, not for you.
What I would do is go to www.blackmarket.co.nz and buy the wine there or at one of the other resellers offering excellent deals for cases (with a money back guarantee).
Then take the advise of all these kind people and see the fantastic sights of the Nelson area. You will be pushing to do it justice in three days but you should have a great time trying.

399556 2005-10-29 08:49:00 What to do? Visit the Mac's Gold brewery in Stoke - I'm not sure if they still do but they used to have brewery tours. I laughed when I saw who 'the boss' was in your later post...

399557 2005-10-29 22:47:00 In about 1976 you could get a truck/bus ride from Collingwood all the way along Farewell Spit to the the lighhouse station at the end . Didn't ever do it myself but I was busy painting the lighhouse tower with another guy and whenever they arrived we'd knock off (the good old days workstyle in the govt dept . s) and climb down and have a cup of tea with them . The keepers' wive's (there were two families there then)used to make great morning and afternoon teas, scones and sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes, terrific .

It's all automated now, think there's only a couple of stations still manned .

Anyway, theres'a trip but you could take if it still runs . Bit of a way from Nelson though, we (the painting gang) flew in light planes and landed on the beach .

One day we were all having a cuppa with the pilot as well and yakking and carrying on having a laugh and we all forgot about the tide coming in and when we all wandered back down to the beach to watch the plane leave it was in about of meter of water . So we hustled together ropes and the station tractor and pulled and pushed it back up on the dry and then he took off with a laugh and wiggle of the wings . Great days .

399558 2005-10-29 23:07:00 Won't repeat some of the very good suggestions but have got to emphasis the one re the "Mussel Boys" . Have not been the greatest fan for mussels but stopped there for Mrs Misty's sake and ended up thoroughly enjoying it myself . They are experts in making mussels of variety and exceedingly tasty .

The one thing not mentioned which am sure the "boss" (and probably yourself) is to visit the "wearable arts" permanent exhibition which shows the best from last year and previous years shows . Both Mrs Misty and I really enjoyed that and would go again . In the same building (and I think on the same ticket) is an exhibition of vintage cars - which is very well done indeed . I thought oh, not another exhibition of old cars but their presentation is very good indeed as they have mannequins of gangsters and of 60's pop etc to liven them up . Also some of them are the most amazing cadillacs etc with the very long fins and polished to gleaming . Presume that the wearable arts and cars must still be there . Do check out what the situation is .

For a beer and a good but inexpensive meal the "Victorian Rose" old pub is good - especially in good weather - and I like an al fresco table !

For a great coffee and snack and interesting decor there is the "Lambretta" .
Very interesting to look around and relax and enjoy !!

Do give us feedback on what you eventually do .
cheers
Misty :D

399559 2005-10-30 03:36:00 OK, here's the plan (beta):

Monday 7th. Arrive Nelson 8:15am. pick up car, drive to Cape Farewell and back maybe via Cobb valley (all day trip).
Day 2. 5-hour Abel Tasman cruise, return via route 61/route 6 Tapawera/Belgrove etc. Is that a detour worth taking?
Day 3. Pelorus/Havelock and back to Nelson, sightsee in Nelson. Depart 6pm.

Somewhere in there we will fit in a trip to the wearable art museum and Macs Brewery and maybe a couple of wineries.

Misty, thanks for the suggestion about the mussels. I used to love them, but I had some dodgy ones a few years ago, and now they make me extremely ill. I can still eat oysters though, so all is not lost.
