675444 2008-06-04 07:24:00 Well, not in the romantic sense.

:badpc:
First of all, my browser has been severely hijacked, and I can't get on tech forums or spyware scanning sites. That is, except for this one.

Everytime I try, I get redirected to OpenDNS, or shown an error page. I've been trying to eradicate this nasty one, for 26 HOURS!!!

I need my PC back, as I have video editing to do... Please, can someone help?

I've tried most of the offline scanners, which found various threats, which I subsequently eliminated. I've had AntiVir installed, but the little pest got past AntiVir.

XoftSpy found some, Spyhunter found some, HJT found some, and I've spent hours cleaning up the registry as well as doing an In-Place install of Windows XP SP2. Still have extremely sluggish performance and nasty redirection. I've gotta have this machine clean, so I can do urgent work in the next 4-5 days..

:help:
Tell me what you need. NOTE: I may not be able to D/L some scanners due to the redirection issue. But I'll try.

TIA

675445 2008-06-04 07:36:00 what about an online scan from Nod 32 here (www.eset.com) does need IE though gary67 (56)
675446 2008-06-04 07:37:00 OpenDNS is not spyware. It is a replacement DNS server used to block content like porn etc.
Check your DNS settings and see what they are set to.

675447 2008-06-04 07:38:00 You could get a friend to download a nod32 trial, then send it to you via MSN. Alternatively, you could download it at some publich internet place, then put it on a flash drive/cd and then install it at home. SPARTAN 860 (2618)
675448 2008-06-04 07:49:00 also check your host file in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc see if the redirect is happening from there beama (111)
675449 2008-06-04 08:22:00 Can't get there. Hijacked browsers won't let me (IE6 and Netscape 8.1), FireFox won't even launch...

Thanks for the effort. :)

675450 2008-06-04 08:24:00 See if you can download this (www.simplysup1.com)

Install it then click on scan. Then click on update and see if it updates.

Then select all options under utilities

Thanks. I know that. This is sometimes the site that I am directed to.

If I put housecall.trendmicro.com in the browser address line NOW, I am directed to a random site like: www.official--site.com

It could be another misdirected site each time. But NEVER the site I want. It ONLY happens when I try to get to tech support help sites for spyware or AV, or if I go to any of the sites that supply antivirus or Spyware clean-up utilities.

I opened a DOS window and did a ping on housecall.trendmicro.com and I get an IP address of 127.0.0.1, but there are no entries in my HOSTS file, other than 127.0.0.1 localhost.

675453 2008-06-04 09:22:00 If you want the trial version of nod32, you can download it from a file saving place I use - Direct Download, not from Eset (dl3u.savefile.com) - so it wont get redirected - just under 20 Mb wainuitech (129)
