| 402517 | 2005-11-07 16:25:00 | Last week I made a complaint by phone because of smokers outside the new hospital building on Park Road, honestly walking past there each day was like walking past some drag center with Street walkers having a rest sitting on the concrete wall waiting for their next client, I was beginning to wonder how much the rooms were to rent for a half an hour or so. The next day I did not see any difference, but from the second day the smokers seemed to of disappeared. So there you are, you can upgrade Auckland image if you make a complaint to the right people. What a lot people don't understand and this has been pointed out to me by a smoker, a smoker trying to give up smoking can get hooked back on to the smoking habit by sniffing someone else smoking while they are walking in public walkways. |

| 402520 | 2005-11-07 18:21:00 | Interferring old busybody . That's your opinion, others may not agree with you but if you support smoking, I strongly suspect that yours would be a minority viewpoint . If nobody did anything, nothing would change . I had to visit a dying relative there recently and I was appalled to se patients out on the street smoking . In my opinion we shouldn't waste one solitary health dollar on smokers . Let them commit suicide if they want to, but not at the expense of the majority who are non-smokers . Tha same applies to people who eat or drink themselves to death . Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 402522 | 2005-11-07 18:35:00 | It's a disgrace the way hospitals force sick people out into the streets to have a cigarette. It's even a bigger disgrace that New Zealanders allow such a thing to go on. |

It's even a bigger disgrace that New Zealanders allow such a thing to go on. Now now Jack, that is a smoker's view and one that I'd bet would not be shared by very many non-smokers. It is a far greater disgrace that a disproportionate amount of the national health dollar is spent trying to keep alive people whose sole object in life appears to be to either drink, smoke or eat themselves to death. Sometimes all three. Personally I'd terminate treatment if I were the Doctor and put them on palliative care only if they insisted on undoing my work. Cheers Billy 8-{) PS Don't throw in the old chestnut about people smoking all their life and living to ripe old ages either. Sure some do, just like some people survive horrendous head-on car wrecks and literally walk away (I'm one of them) but they are a statistical minority. The hospitals and graveyards are chock full of the statistical majority. |
