| 401671 | 2005-11-03 19:30:00 | From a couple of reviews: Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS The Fatal1ty adds 64MB of onboard RAM and an I/O breakout box to the basic X-Fi platform . Creative developed a whole new processor to power it, the 20K1, sporting 51 million transistors and 10,000 MIPS . Enormous feature set . Stunning audio quality . Outstanding interface . Can restore badly recorded or compressed content . Optional MCE-like interface with remote . Flexible I/O box fits into a 5 . 25-inch drive bay, plus 64MB onboard RAM . Analog Inputs: Shared 1/8" Mic In / Line In Analog Outputs: 7 . 1 Line Out, Headphone Digital Inputs: Coax S/PDIF, Optical S/PDIF Digital Outputs: Coax S/PDIF, Optical S/PDIF 3D APIs Supported: DS3D, EAX, Open AL Max Playback Bit Depth: 24 Max Playback Sample Rate: 192 Max Playback # of channels: 7 . 1 Max Rec Bit Depth: 24 Max Rec Sample Rate: 96 Remote: Wireless In terms of audio quality, the X-Fi is unquestionably the best-sounding sound card that we've ever heard . With approximately 24 times the processing power of the Audigy series, the X-Fi can perform some impressive tasks . Not only does the X-Fi feature improved 3D performance if you're using headphones, a pair of regular speakers, or a surround sound system, but it can also boost the audio quality by taking 16-bit audio (which is the bit rate of regular CD music), "guessing" at what was lost during compression, and then restoring it to 24-bit-quality audio on the fly . We upgraded from the Audigy 2 ZS, the previous top-of-the-line sound card, and the improvement was immediately noticeable on our Logitech Z-680 speakers . Music sounded richer and cleaner, and there was texture that we hadn't heard before . The audio quality of the X-Fi is phenomenal, and I doubt many will dispute this claim . Creatives new X-Fi processor is capable of superb, realistic enhancement of audio streams on the fly to increase their audio quality with their new 24-bit Crystalizer feature . , but even without this feature, the X-Fi delivers terrific analog and digital audio quality across the board . In addition, their EAX and Surround effects are more polished than ever, putting competitors to shame and making all other faux surround environments seem child-like and faked . And its seriously expensive . $619 inc GST . ETA 15th November . I'm going to get the Extreme Music edition - that also got excellent reviews - its more or less the same but without the 64Mb - but I have 2Gb system ram anyway and its a LOT cheaper . |

| 401673 | 2005-11-07 20:09:00 | www.ascent.co.nz I have the Audigy2 ZS before that the SB Live. I have had SB cards in all of my PCs since I switched over from Commodore Amigas in 98, which I ran for 10 years. Trevor :) |
