Urban reconstruction as well as parliamentary reform. ;) The rebuilding had to wait another 61 years for the big fire to clear the way. | Graham L (2) | ||
| 401960 | 2006-06-04 01:44:00 | i think we need to get our priortioys right. no ones banning smoking and that kills thousands of nz's every year and costs the taxpayer millions of dollers every year. ok ill admit fireworks cause some damage to property and some dumb turds injure themselfs every year but they are make people happy for a few days a year so i think fireworks should not be banned. | chay (9204) | ||

That said, i've never burnt myself or had my house burnt down from fireworks, so maybe i don't have the right to comment. Dead right. What on earth is happening to us. Ban this Ban that. Keep the kids stuck in front of their TVs and for exercise let them play computer games. Well I have been burned - in 1945 when fireworks were unobtainable we got hold of some RAF flares and managed to set one off - took a piece out of my friends head and hit me full in the eyes. I was bandaged up for 3 days not knowing if I would recover my sight and had to wear very dark goggles for 6 weeks and do no reading. But I feel sorry for those who try to make life fully safe. Funny enough I have seen more accidents (or potential accidents) when I have attended so called controlled safe fireworks events than I have ever seen in back gardens. But I do agree that we have the wrong time of year for our fireworks - the sandhills opposite our house had a huge fire some years ago because of fireworks. Used at the proper time in winter that would not have happened. How about we find something else to celebrate that takes place in winter as opposed to celebrating the life of the only person ever to enter parliament with the right intention (blow it up!). Tom |
