Such self-control. :D Thinking more about this brought me to this conclusion: When it comes to spending my tax dollars (see disclaimer below) what's important is how valuable the service provided is. That's why I think Closeup (and possibly Ms Wood) will be finished shortly. It happened to Hawkesby when he thought he was God's Gift *Yes, I know that TVNZ make a very nice profit & that the salaries are probably derived from that, but the fact that it's a Government (and therefore taxpayer) owned organisation that gives the feeling of tax dollars being spent. As you mention as an afterthought TVNZ pays it's own way. What they pay in wages is up to them. As I see it they are quite happy to pay the high salaries. But the government appointed board doesn't agree. In other words the govt. (Helen Clark) doesn't like it. So once again we have govt.lacking the guts to come out and admit it. Their lackeys get to do the dirty work and take the flack. Something like Clarke's motorcade escapade. Yet about half the population seem to like her and her party. How much more damage do they have to do before a majority say enough? |

But that is exactly how all governments have operated since the New Right Revolution. National under Bolger and Shipley were past masters at devolving power to SOEs etc, and the Health system, at the same time severely limiting their funding, and then passing the buck downwards when things went wrong. It is certainly not a Clarke perogative, and it never happened under the old system when we had a Public Service and Public Servants, and to boot those public servants at all levels were proscribed by a thing called...wait for it... A Public Service Manual :) |

Because I don't know that one :) Instead what about The Gold Diggers Song (We're In the Money) (www.redhotjazz.com) from Gold Diggers of 1933, played by Ted Lewis, or even Are You Makin' Any Money (www.redhotjazz.com), Paul Whiteman |

She's the one who was prowling around Indonesia just after the tsunami, and we often see her in the most disgusting places reporting on the situation. For me, she's the one who deserves the big salary. She's actually living hard and putting her life in danger at times. I wonder what she earns? Whatever it is, I wouldn't begrudge it. |

I remember seeing something on TV about the day in the life of Paul Holmes. He gets up about 4:00 or 4:30 in the morning 5 days a week to do his breakfast radio show. Trevor :) So obviously he wasn't being overworked by the Holmes show. |

| 401583 | 2005-11-19 05:09:00 | To all those people who condemn the salaries of TVNZ and others . . . . . are your current salaries reflective of your worth and ability? If your employer offered you more than you are worth would you accept the offer? Is not most of the criticism a result of sour grapes . . . . . . if my employer made me a stupid offer . . . . . I would take the money . . . . hell if they were also stupid enough to then give me a contract that was seriously inept, then I'd be happier still . Perhaps the criticism should be directed at an inept employer as opposed to a smart employee . . . . . unless of course you are of such moral and ethical fibre that you would turn down such an offer from your employer . . . . . |
