400806 2005-11-03 00:27:00 Why do you need webcams ? A select minority. Not everyone wants to see everyone they are talking to.Right, but by the same token not everyone wants to send text messages or hear the sound of your voice. Does this make those services any less vaild? The point is there are people who do want video conferencing, as evidenced by the fact that the web cameras sell.

In the past video conferenceing has either been tricky to do, or very expensive, or both. With the vodafone 3G phones, it is easy, cheap (same cost as a regular call), and mobile.

400807 2005-11-03 00:47:00 I suspect Video calling is a feature of the handsets available to the various telco's. Telecom probably has not found a suitable handset to release as yet.

Rating a 3G Network on what is currently available in handsets is limiting your review of it. In 3-6 months time Telecom will have more handsets out and things may change. Remember this is a free-market.

Things like reliability, performance and billing rules are more important then features of handsets .

400808 2005-11-03 01:20:00 I was under the impression their network wasn't capble of real time video conferencing.

If its a hand set issue, then its just as bad. Vodafone can supply them, why not Telecom?

400809 2005-11-03 01:37:00 The advantage for Vodafone, and it is one of their strengths, is that more networks are using it's technology and therefore a bigger market for handset manufacturers. Therefore handsets will be released for them first.

I have a foot it each camp. I use Telecom for business and my wife uses Vodafone for personal. When I am on holiday, we use her phone , which can be used anywhere.

As to it's network not being capable. An upgrade to the core components would be done and updated handsets released, if there is a significant market for it.

Uhh...... Wouldn't it make more sense to discuss about networks based on how they are NOW? I mean, with the same token, I can say that if Vodafone upgrade to HSPDA, or other upgrades, speeds of the Vodafone network can greatly increase over that of Telecom's as well.

KiwiTT_NZ, I don't think internationally, any EV-DO network (Telecom's) is supporting Video calling? Do correct me if I'm wrong...
