675756 2008-06-05 12:05:00 I think he means as an alternative to the Alcatels they had previously been using for ADSL, though not necessarily in that particular location Agent_24 (57)
675757 2008-06-06 06:10:00 The reason they used yhe conklins is that they didn't have an alcatel unit small enough at the time to use in the cabinets. They now do and have just about replaced all the conklins with htese ASAM Mini's.They are also now putting these in smaller boxes next to the cabinets once they have run out of room in the cabinets,so you may be on a mini now as it may have been updated already.Where in Albany are you,I can find out for you if you want.

675758 2008-06-06 10:39:00 Hi Peter'

I am in ALYQ, corner of Sunnyside Road/Coatesville Riverhead Highway .

Following my initial posting and the various comments posted here I sent a new e-mail as below:

Me-------------------------------------

I can’t quite follow the logic of your reply . I should presumably only get a new modem if an ADSL2+ service is available . My typical speeds at present are around 2200 kbps download and 128 kbps upload . Perhaps I could get faster with a different plan .

Please confirm or otherwise my understanding that:

1 . The Conklin mini DSLAM in the local box has a performance ability of 8000 download, 800kbps upload .

2 . That the Albany exchange is fully migrated to ADSL2+ as shown on your schedule .

Thanks

Telecom--------------------------------

Thank you for your email .

Yes my email has a small typo there, it should have read that based on this information I "wouldn't" suggest you go out and buy a new modem, sorry about that .

Yes the Albany exchange is ADSL2+ enabled, the cabinet that you connect through ALY/Q wont be ADSL2+ enabled until at least September 2008 . I would recommend that you contact us in September for further updates on this upgrade .

If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me .

Kind regards
-----------------------------------------------

It really makes mewonder if anyone in Telecom knows what the other half, or rather now with separation the other third, are doing . Note there is no response to my query about the Conklin speed but it is now acknowledged that my exchange is now ADSL2+ enabled AND that the local box will be upgraded in about 3 months .

Wow!

675759 2008-06-06 10:51:00 Hi Rob,I wouldn't hold your breath about the cabinet getting upgraded in September, remember he said "AT LEAST until September".The cabinet is the one behind the bushes on the corner there, and to upgrade the would have to replace the whole cabinet and change everything,so it is a big job,so you may be stuck for a while.Still here's hoping for you.

675760 2008-06-08 03:27:00 Thanks again for your help Peter. Yes, it is the box behind the bushes. And yes, I agree he did say 'at least' so probably it won't be done until they cabinetise the whole area, 2010 I think.
