402528 2005-11-07 20:37:00 Nice to meet all you people who are not going to die. Or is it OK to die as long as is tobacco does not contribute to your death?

Oh I'm going to die alright jack, and I've been on borrowed time ever since the aforementioned car wreck (that used up 8 of my 9 lives) but I'm damned sure I'm not going to do anything that I know with reasonable certainty will hasten that end. Apart from getting out of bed every morning.

It is ok to die anytime you want Jack, but it is not ok to expect the population of NZ to fund the care for self-inflicted illnesses at the expense of people who need care for "involuntary ailments". They have a greater right to care and treatment to ease their pain or to prolong their lives.

It is not ok to intentionally abuse your body and your health, especially when that means that hospital beds are not available to people who desperately need care for reasons not associated with self-indulgent behaviours involving not just tobacco, but food, alcohol and illegal drugs as well.

Cheers

Because you didn't format it as a link, so there is no point in putting it in your sig. It doesn't facilitate access to the site.

Take a look at the formatting options.

Sorry Jack

Tobacco is the only known (and proven) carcinogen on your list, the others are fine in moderation .

BTW, are you actually suggesting that tobacco smoking does not cause cancer, or that doctors and medical researchers are weirdos?

402535 2005-11-07 21:50:00 Thanks BillyT. Not allowed to use it now though.

And a message to the doom and gloom merchants. Have just got back from my occasional visit to the doctor. With the smoking discussion in mind I asked him for his opinion. He said, "keep smoking if you want to. It's not doing you any harm. If you tried to stop now it would probably kill you."

And my blood pressure was 133/60. Good for a twenty year old. Amazing at my age

Must have been something in your father's jeans! ;)

It gave you a "jeanetic" advantage over the average specimen.

I have a friend whose grandfather smoked like a chimney all his life, ate everything out of a frypan full of lard and rode a bike until his mid 90's. My friend's father is in his mid-80's now, and although he doesn't have the dietary issue, or ride a bike, he too smokes on a daily basis and looks at least 10 years younger than he is.

If you've got 'em, you've got 'em! Trouble is, you outlive the rest of your peer group and could very well end up as a grumpy old codger infesting computer help sites.....oops......no offence intended. :D

Unfortunately, the graveyards are full of the poor sods whose mothers never knew your father. :p
