| 675895 | 2008-06-05 10:11:00 | I have a laptop with XP MCE and a Desktop with XP Pro. Can the SP3 (downloaded the IS0 CD) be applied to both machines, or they are different? | bk T (215) | ||
| 675896 | 2008-06-05 11:28:00 | I think you could apply the same SP3 to both machines. SP3 is mainly just security and minor performance upgrades. | beeswax34 (63) | ||

But when I was at MS's download site, under system requirement, there seems no mention about MCE, only Home and Pro versions of XP. :confused: I want to be absolutely sure before apply to my laptop - don't want to spend hours in restoring it if something goes wrong. |

| 675898 | 2008-06-05 12:32:00 | Here's what I got: You can run the SP3 update package on any edition of Windows XP SP1 or SP2. For example, you can run the SP3 update package on a computer running the Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP1. The exceptions are Embedded editions for XP. From the file I downloaded here: www.microsoft.com |

From the file I downloaded here: www.microsoft.com Looks it's for MCE as well from your above link overview This is what I got from the actual download page (where I downloaded): "System Requirements Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP Home Edition ; Windows XP Professional Edition ; Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2"From Here (www.microsoft.com) , MCE doesn't seem to be included. I'm still confused. Has anyone actually applied this SP3 to MCE? |

| 675900 | 2008-06-05 23:24:00 | It depends on WHAT version of MCE youre talking about As it says here (download.microsoft.com) This issue affects Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002. If you install Windows XP SP3 on a computer running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 with SP1, Windows XP Media Center Edition may malfunction. To avoid this, install Windows XP SP2 before you install Windows XP SP3. If this issue has already occurred, uninstall Windows XP SP3, install Windows XP SP2, and then reinstall Windows XP SP3. |

| 675902 | 2008-06-07 05:40:00 | I have heard through "PC Pitstop" that there are more problems with XP SP and the "upgrade" is more of a downgrade than a upgrade. Likely to cause all manner of chaos in your machines. Has anyone had such trouble since installing the upgrade? I am holding off upgrading until it sounds safe to upgrade. | Devie Boy (12457) | ||
| 675903 | 2008-06-07 05:46:00 | SP3 works fine on these 2. There is a patch or a VBS script that'll check your system to see if a reg key needs changing. If it does it'll change it. Then you can install SP3 It may also depend on WHAT the CPU is in the case / laptop. |
