401535 2005-11-02 23:26:00 I won't comment on this issue except to say this:

With the prospect of Susan Wood's salary going down from $450,000 to only $350,000, she says she was so stressed out about it that she "shouted at her children in a way she never had before. That made her ashamed."

Don't know about you, but if I was told my salary was 350 Grand, the only thing I'd be shouting at my kids is "Guess what? We're going to Disneyland!"

401536 2005-11-02 23:36:00 I'd be shouting at the kids "You're going to Disneyland.... I'm off to a luxury resort in the Bahamas!"

Even 350 grand for a blond 'talking head' seems hard to justify and yes, remember that in the end the tax payer is funding this 'high quality' TV that we get. Personally I think someone straight off the dole and being paid 35 grand a year would be just as effective.

401537 2005-11-02 23:38:00 I agree .

A pay packet like that would be better then winning lotto .

Think its pretty shocking really, all those TV presenters should be sacked, as well as Ralston, and Fraser should be locked up, without pay .

Im sure we could find some non-ugly people who can speak well that will be happy to do the job for a fraction of that pay .

Job interview questions .

Are your repulsive?
Can you read?
Can you speak?
Can you do an hours work 5 times a week, all of it sitting down?

I wonder how our PM's pay packet compares to these jumped up clowns . . . . .

401539 2005-11-03 00:34:00 I've often wondered, especially after the whole Judy Bailey pay-packet saga, how much work these newsreaders do outside of reading the news? Do they write their own material? Do they spend all day researching their stories and being journo's, or are they ONLY talking heads? How many hours a week do they 'work'? It'd be interesting to know if anyone has that info... pixeldust (6619)
401540 2005-11-03 00:42:00 Jack all.. all the material is prepared by someone else on a much lower wage rate. All they do is read.

Infact, I went to primary school with the child of one the the famous ones on TV1 whom I shall not name. He/She/It was at school helping us out quite a bit, and teaching us how to read and interpret 'things'. Takes his/her/its kids out shopping straight after school with his/her/its huge pay cheque. Other than the hours between 5 to after the news report, he/she/it appeared to me to be a bum on the dole -except on the dole made for 'spethal classy pephole'

401541 2005-11-03 00:48:00 What about Holmes? If he was worth $1,000,000 a year surely Susan is worth $2,000,000
And what about Fraser. What did he do for $600,000?

Thank god for Sky.

401542 2005-11-03 00:52:00 Its because if you are a TV/movie/singer/sports person it is worth a lot. After all running about a field chasing a ball or sitting in front of a camera is so essential for keeping the world going.

Whereas if you do something unimportant like put out fires, produce food or clean up the place then its only deserving of rubbish pay.

401544 2005-11-03 00:58:00 Above a medium level, "remuneration" is not earned . It has no relation to the work done, or the value of the "work" to society .

The recent row about pay for executives of power companies brought a comment from one of the board members . He said that they are competing on an international market (that word again) in a "limited pool of talent" . It's nonsense, of course . . . any of them has a secretary (or "PA") who can do their work and is paid much less, and probably does most of their work, anyway . (In the power companies, the pool is limited by the loss of those who have gone to jail in the US) .
