2016-09-01 23:22:00 | Anyone else on here feel the earthquake this morning? It was a slight rolling motion where I am. Waited for the big one but it didn't happen, so went back to sleep...... LL

2016-09-01 23:55:00 | Yes, it woke me up but SWMBO slept through it. As you say, a rolling one with no jolts. I laughed about the Mt Maunganui folk still walking their dogs in opposition to the tsunami warning.... Or were they like me and figured out that at the speed a tsunami goes and the fact that it was only 120K out to sea, it would have all been over before the warning was issued. Ken :banana:banana

2016-09-02 07:39:00 | 7.2, same as our 4 Sept. 2010 one. lurking. But your 2011 shake did more damage at 6.3 than the 2010 one and was considered an aftershock of it. The 1931 Napier shake was 7.8, followed by a 7.3 aftershock.... but it is as it is all to do with where it is, how deep and the surface wave strength. en.wikipedia.org It is a very complicated problem and difficult to relate one quake with another. Look how much land was raised around 2 metres in the Napier area. Hundreds of hectares. Ken

2016-09-03 02:51:00 | ken, I was comparing apples with apples. 7.1 over 7.2. Like to keep away from the Feb. 22nd one, that was one very bad day. Your 1931 Napier quake, I seem to remember being told that my grandfather supplied bread to those who had to camp out under canvas, Hastings Showground I think !. lurking.

No one can really compare unless they have all the stats and others' personal experiences to call upon. Always very frightening for those who are going through that at the time. | lakewoodlady (103) | ||
