1424566 2016-08-16 03:40:00 There is no single answer, depends on the pc, its power settings, what its doing for those 24 hours, etc.

For example my gaming pc can use up to 400W while I'm playing games which is approx 10c an hour, when I'm just Web surfing or it's sitting idle that drops down to 100W which is about 2.5c an hour. However if I walk away and leave it it goes to sleep after a while and uses basically nothing. And that's just the PC you also have the monitor to consider.

Then my NUC PC in the lounge uses less than 100W when fully loaded and drops down to 20W when idle and probably averages .5 - 1c an hour

Why is it running 24/7 and what is it being used for during most of that Time?

1424567 2016-08-16 07:30:00 When we are out of the house for more than an hour or so the only things still powered are the fridge, freezer and router. At this time of year the hot water is off due to having a wetback. Nothing is left on standby as that also uses power. gary67 (56)
1424568 2016-08-19 04:17:00 Sorry .. have been away and just logged in

It's a Home PC that acts as a file / web server, from memory it occupies approx 200 watts (tested by using those wall sockets power usage meter)

Reason I asked is my friend reckons leaving a PC on 24/7 will cost me like $70-$80 a month.
