| 1424513 | 2016-08-21 21:09:00 | Are you obsessed about this pctek. Ken I guess so. Family lives in Hawkes Bay. It astounded me that chlorine isn't added in all districts, never knew that. Having seen various docos about the history of it all etc.... And I have had that germ, it's not much fun. Glad my mum didn't get it. I don't have to worry about our water, it's terrific and trustworthy. Big deal, you can taste chlorine first thing in the morning sometimes, like I said, if it bothers people, they cna put a jug in the fridge overnight, that will clear it. Better safe than picky about taste. |

| 1424514 | 2016-08-21 21:21:00 | What area does Mum live? I am told that the bore that supplies Havelock North was fairly shallow. Our Napier water comes from a different part of the aquifer and depth ranges from 50-100metres- a lot deeper. The Aquifer is self flushing. It starts in the ranges, and about 30K out in the bay there is a place where is comes out. I am told you can drink the water from the sea out there at times as the salinity is quite low. Similar to the springs at Takaka except they come up just inland. A little levity to the discussion. Our local rag the "Hawkes Bay Today" has a comment from a reader... :clap The Fruit Bowl of New Zealand is now The Toilet Bowl of New Zealand. :clap Ken |

| 1424515 | 2016-08-21 21:31:00 | Its f****** expensive though! Won't dispute that. My M-in-law in Tauranga's water bill for 3 months is the same as my Auckland one for 1 month. Got to keep paying all those 6 figure salaries for the Auckland council staff.. |

While living in Christchurch where they don't pay water separately, I couldn't get over how every second house it seemed was watering their driveway and the road for hours at a time despite being in a continuing drought |

Got to keep paying all those 6 figure salaries for the Auckland council staff.. Ak Council supercity has been running at a huuge loss since day1. And getting worse . They have to find $ any way they can, so everything needs to be seen as a cash cow. Perhaps thats part of the reason some councils dont chlorinate, just another cost for a small council allready over its head in debt ? |

My watercare bill - I average it out for the year - so pay $75 a month . What area does Mum live? I am told that the bore that supplies Havelock North was fairly shallow . Maraenui . She lives on coffee and cold water that she gets by putting boiled kettle water into a jug in the fridge . She knew they don't chlorinate . |

It should be done on a need basis and most Water Treatment Plants have worked that way for years. If you do have to continuously chlorinate, then you must have an awful source and the problem needs to be addressed at that point. |

| 1424522 | 2016-08-22 03:38:00 | For the tenth time.... WE DON'T HAVE A WATER PROBLEM IN NAPIER. And have not ever in my 54 years had a water problem. That includes the Queens Birthday floods in 1963 and Cyclone Bola in 1988. Or any other time. Your Mum, pctek, is wasting her time boiling and keeping water! Ken :2cents: |
