On saying that, your previous post about how you upgrade -- It carries across all the OS's. Now maybe B.M will read it and see its not just windows. :)

1427478 2016-10-16 22:48:00 Big Business run Winupdates via there own severs , so have more control over it.
Medium/small businesses who run a single SBS server , have the issue of that server based update system failing due to lack of regular WSUS maintenance; leaving a mess. :)

Nothing new here.
XP used to have lots of issues with Winupdates (plenty of XP's just used to stop updating back in the day) . And plenty of XP's were stuck on the SP they came with.
Win7 used to have 'issues' with 'failed' winupdates. No big deal, was often just an update that downloaded but didnt install as it wasnt needed
Win7 also had some issues with SP1 not intalling via winupdate (for any no of reasons) , requiring a manual SP1 install
Updates from old top newer Win versions didnt allways work perfectly in the past either. Would anyone dare to say that even Linux has zero issues with a major OS update

So lets not pretend this is just a 10 issue . :)

1101, yes you do bring up some mute points, even hardware had the same problems back when IBM competed with ICL mainframes, lot of under the table stuff went on there.

ICL I believe is now history, "big blue" became the mainstay. Like Mini Computers history to PCs'.

Still have the SP3 file on G: all 319mb, gave a copy of that to son and it straightened out his SP2 machine.

Even old dos got up to ver 6.2, ver 3.3 was as far as it got to when I left work.

Mind you software didn't have to compete with all the gadgets there are about today, just the occasional battery catching fire. Would not want all your files on there.

Wainui, call it a Rolling Release, Call it an Update, Call it a Patch, in fact call it anything you like, at the end of the day it’s the same thing, but here is where the difference lies.

Microsoft have been bombarding my computer with broken updates, take a look at the screenshots I posted in my lead Post. That is inexcusable in my book.

On the other hand, Linux has had as many updates and every one installed correctly.

Then there is the matter of Microsoft’s “holier than thou attitude”, that they know what you want and you’re going to have it like it or lump it.

On the other hand, Linux politely tells you there are updates available, complete with a short resumes as to what they’re about and leaves it completely up to you to decide what you wish to do.

In short, we have, Pig Ignorance v Manners.

However, for those of you who are also tiring of Microsoft’s arrogance, grab an old Hard-drive or Computer and stick Linux Mint on it and have a play, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. ;)

I doubt its the updates its the state of your OS. You just wont admit it.

If the updates are bad, then please explain why in the pictures Below, there are NO errors from Mine, the list goes back to August, and all clean ????

BTW- this has no special updates settings its the default as installed, they come through when available, install, just like yours does. BUT mine install due to a clean system, unlike yours so it seems.

While I basically agree with you, to be fair B.M. will almost certainly have different hardware/software/drivers etc., so you can't make a direct comparison.

To a degree, but its still the OS. I got quite a few computers here, all W10, all different hardware, ranging in age to 8 years old, all installed fine, no problems with updates, ALL had fresh installs from the beginning.

The way BM goes on its the actual updates that are bad, which its not.

Not so, I am perfectly happy to admit my OS is buggered, but it was fine prior to the failed updates that broke it.

What I can't explain is why some of the updates were fine on one Computer but completely screwed another.

Take my wifes Computers Webcam. Stuffed after one update which not only affected ASUS Webcams, but Millions of others including Logitech. But my Webcam wasn't effected at all.

Then, on the other side of the coin, one update killed my Wireless, but Wife's was fine.

But if that's not bad enough, you can't stop Microsoft wrecking your gear, unlike Linux.

1427484 2016-10-17 02:11:00 The trouble is with any update problems getting second or third hand information (on forums or over the phone) it can be almost impossible to give a reason. Often seeing the problem if front of you its a lot easier to find a solution, or the cause.

I've personally seen MANY W10 PC's running slow, not till you actually see them its A-HA There's the reason, and its Never anything the person may have told you.

Here's a good one though -- Attached my ipod nano to the W10 in the lounge yesterday - damn thing would load in drivers, went to Apples Trouble shooting / Help, THEIR suggestion is to uninstall ITunes and reinstall it. Well that didn't work :(

Went into advanced options in Apples site, danced all around changing setting left right and centre that they suggested - one link pointed to drivers - which was empty (like that was helpful) still didn't work.

Manually ran windows update twice, and on the second time said it had found drivers for unknown device , installed, and bingo - Ipod working :banana

you can't stop Microsoft wrecking your gear, unlike Linux. Wanna bet !!!

Explain this -- looking at your keyboard problem I loaded in a wireless keyboard -- Works perfectly fine in Windows, but in Linux the I,L, n, a Keys don't work ?? Change HDD's back to Windows, all good. So it has to be the OS.

1427485 2016-10-17 02:18:00 To be honest I think you're being a bit harsh on Windows 10 B.M. No operating system is perfect, especially when you consider all the variables with hardware too.

Yes, it's sad but Linux also wrecks itself sometimes. A quick Google search found these:

www.reddit.com

forums.linuxmint.com

askubuntu.com

That last one was an attempt to upgrade Ubuntu from 12.04 to 14.04 which, as I mentioned earlier version updates don't always go well.
