| 1427446 | 2016-10-14 21:43:00 | So, a Win10 upgrade requires you to Format your drive and start again. Pity they didn't bother to tell us that. Microsoft may have not said it, but myself and others have said that exactly MANY times. A fresh install is always better than a upgrade. The problems happen /start when the original OS was either W7 or 8, upgraded to W10. A fresh install from the start, hardly ever gives problems. Seem to recall being scoffed at when it was mentioned. Just finished doing an upgrade with all the updates etc on the wifes PC, it hasn't been on for roughly 3-4 weeks, no problems what so ever. FYI-- Have seen Office 2003 ( Some of the ones showing as failed in your Pictures) actually require a couple of goes to install. |

Makes you wonder how the hell we got from Win 95 to Win 7 without such requirements? Bring back the old Programmers and stop relying on the "Insiders" free labour to do the testing is my solution to the problem. :) |

Yes, but when they unpack and don't do their thing, what happens to what they've left behind? We all know that even when you correctly uninstall a programme there is rubbish left behind, so a crashed upgrade is probably worse. |

B.M. Are you using a Wireless or Wired connection on your computers ? Reason is if wireless you can change the updates to not download and install. It can also be done on Ethernet as well so reported, but I have to test it, means changing a reg entry, (have the reg files and undo as well). |

| 1427452 | 2016-10-14 22:51:00 | It's not a work platform anymore, can't imagine if you have a Win10 PC in the Office and you have some very important work to finish in the morning .... I have one work PC on W10 and it was unusable because of continual updates. I turned off updates in February and it hasn't missed a beat since. True, it hasn't got all the new gimmicks, but it does work and is stable. |

B . M . Are you using a Wireless or Wired connection on your computers ? Reason is if wireless you can change the updates to not download and install . It can also be done on Ethernet as well so reported, but I have to test it, means changing a reg entry, (have the reg files and undo as well) . All wireless here Wainui, mainly because the best download speed Ive ever got is 30 something Gbps with a short ethernet cable to the modem . Wireless gives me 20Gbps which is fast enough for my requirements . However, I have serious doubts that a fresh install would solve matters . I base this on the fact that I followed your installation instructions to the letter and Win10 worked great . It was snappy opening and shutting and Im on record as saying how pleased I was with the outcome . Then came the Updates and every one was a giant leap backwards and nothing has changed to this day . I note your recent post HERE ( . pcworld . co . nz/showthread . php?142933-Windows-10-update-has-deleted-itunes-WTF&p=1252222&viewfull=1#post1252222" target="_blank">pressf1 . pcworld . co . nz), and you can see by their own admission they Overrode my careful selection of what I wished to install and installed every god damn bit of rubbish ever invented . And again by your post above, they have defiantly chosen not to do anything about it until some future update when well be given the opportunity to uninstall what we dont want without them putting it back next update . This is despite an outcry by users of like mind to myself . Now, for what its worth, my latest update took me from Ver 1607 Build 14393 . 187 to Ver 1607 Build 14393 . 321, so how long will it be before I can start uninstalling the rubbish without wasting my time by having them put it back? It will be an interesting exercise to see if any improvement can be made by dumping all the Kiddy Stuff . |
