2016-08-29 20:40:00 | Once I wouldn't be seen dead driving an auto. Now I wouldn't drive a stick shift unless it was a hot sports car. Autos have come a long way since my first auto in a Triumph 2000 3 speed.

2016-08-29 22:22:00 | Thanks tweak'e Got an old Mazda 626 that no matter what we have tried it wont start. In the bad old day as a youngster when we had this sort of problems towing the vehicle at speed down the road usually instigated some sort of response from the engine. That's with a gearbox. Auto is a different kettle of fish. My thoughts are that if I could turn the engine over on the starter while towing in gear there may be enough oil getting to the torque converter to keep the engine turning over. What have you tried for a no-start test? No or lack of Spark, Fuel flow, compression are the 3 main culprits for no start. Helped a bloke for no start - had no spark, traced to a bad sensor (Crank sensor). Might be that or bad dizzy (coil, ignition module). Any symptoms before the no start? I once had no immediate start with warm engine, but good cold start. Traced to failing/intermittent working fuel pump - burning out due to constant low fuel usage. Which i think is similar symptom to a bad ignition relay. also transmission neutral/inhibitor switch may need to be checked - preventing no-start. What year is the 626? - Does it support OBD1 or OBD2? I think if >97-98/99 then OBD2 - might have a CEL/DTC (Check engine light) light illuminated. can pull 626C codes (www.obd-codes.com) with scanner or App like Torque Pro. As for auto's - as noted above useful in stop - go Ack peak hour traffic.

2016-09-02 06:49:00 | Love my 6 speed manual. But ohhowuch I would love a auto at the moment since doing something to my shoulder. My manual Mazda 6 2.3L has a five-speed box but around town, and unless I'm on a hill, I only need to use 1, 3, & 5, there is ample torque in modern engines so you don't need to roll through all the gears unless having a traffic-light drag race or the car is loaded with goods and/or bodies. Everybody's situation is different, but I rarely go through all five. Cheers Billy 8-{)

Money saved can be used for good things like alcohol and dirty girls. these days autos tend to be more economical than manuals. with more gears they can select a better gear for the situation and the ecu does a much better job of when to change gears than most people. |

2016-09-02 09:14:00 | Years ago I wanted a Valiant Charger and the dealer only had an Automatic. No, I said, I want a Manual. He questioned my sanity, threw me the keys, shoved me into the Drivers Seat, and told me to have it for the Weekend and wed discuss it further on Monday. On Monday I paid him for it and have never purchased another Manual car. :)
