| 1425414 | 2016-09-05 09:06:00 | I have just been ripped off by a garage which I have dealt with for years. I used to do all my own servicing but at the age of 82 I find it impossible, or very painful to get at the modern cars. Does anyone know of an honest car workshop on the North Shore? | mzee (3324) | ||

They repaired my Air-Con on time and under budget, and every dealing I have with them is honest and properly carried out. Even a regular service is turned out with freshly blacked tires etc. If they quote a price, they stick to it unless something totally unforseen comes up, then they call and explain and get permission before going ahead. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Cheers Billy |

The best were a home mechanic now not living in Akld and and a real one who had his own mobile business but then went to Aussie. I find it's best if they actually show you the issue, and then give you the bad part after. Those that don't, well... I think some if they think you have no knowledge (women) are an easy target. We have one, he does certain things and not others though....I'm hoping the one who went to Aussie comes back. |

I am yet to find a good an honest mechanic/workshop around east Auckland. It's like finding a good, honest and professional dentist! I have been in NZ for almost 30 years and am having problems in finding them. Usually, the first two visits (both mechanics and dentists) they seem to be pretty good but after that ... sigh .....sigh .... their true colour emerge ! |

| 1425420 | 2016-09-06 04:26:00 | Pit Stop have been good for me. Not the cheapest though . I don't mind the cost so much, but when they either do unnecessary work, or no work at all it really pisses me off! In my case I was told that the master cylinder was leaking into the booster and would have to be replaced. The brake fluid level has been on the full mark for the past 6 months. You can run your hand around the booster & master cylinder & there is no fluid, not even a smell. He also told me that the rear brake shoes needed replacing. He did not remove the drums, and the hand brake engages in 4 clicks, and there was no noise, so how he came to that conclusion is beyond me. Fortunately, I am a mechanic and know when I am hearing a lot of bull. All I wanted was a WOF and an oil change. |

Barry has long since retired but his foremost apprentice Darren, runs a great workshop. You could eat off the floor (though I haven't tried :-) ) Ursula, his wife answers the phone and is very knowledgeable. We have out two normal vehicles looked after by them, plus the motorhome, which we are in time-share with another couple. Peace of Mind -- one of the very best things :-D |

I was a hose doctor in West Auckland and did power steering hoses for most garages in the West and Central city. These three are as honest as the day is long. |
