1424632 2016-08-17 22:41:00 My son's off to attend the NRL Grand Final in Aussie. What's the process to call/text back to NZ from his Vodafone Ultra phone and Account? Does he need buy packages, or sim card, or do nothing and just call? Wondering if anyone here has done so from Aussie lately, and with any tips. Thanks... kahawai chaser (3545)
1424633 2016-08-18 01:00:00 :banana Vodafone Oz do a cheap "Throw away the SIM card when you leave" deal. I usually make a beeline for their airport stall as soon as I get through customs. ID required for purchase. Passport OK or that. Last time it cost $29.95 and it gives plenty of phone minutes, data and texts. Doesn't matter if you use it all on one service, like say Data. It is a $ amount you purchase. Or, just check with Vodafone here on their roaming charges. Doesn't take much use to rack up $29.95 of roaming though. :banana

1424634 2016-08-18 01:29:00 Or he could buy an Optus $2 / day SIM. 500 Meg data per day , unlimited AU calls and SMS and cheap calls back to NZ. paulw (1826)
1424635 2016-08-18 01:55:00 SWMBO travelled to UK recently and was able to send me texts from places along the way to let me know how she was getting on and also from the UK on a NZ Vodaphone sim card so if it works that well in places as diverse as Singapore and Belfast then it should work just as well in Aussie. So, as you say, just do nothing and call. Roscoe (6288)

1424637 2016-08-20 06:05:00 Find a public wifi and use Skype.
My daughter traveled all through SE Asia and it didn't cost her a cent.
