| 1424371 | 2016-08-11 22:20:00 | From Flight Aware: Delta Air Lines Inc said it was canceling some 300 flights on Tuesday morning, higher than an earlier estimate of 250, as the carrier worked to restore operations after a power outage hit its computer systems on Monday. The company, which has not yet given details about the financial impact of the outage, said it expected additional delays and cancellations. The airline canceled around 1,000 flights on Monday, stranding passengers at airports around the globe. We were able to bring our systems back on line and resume flights within a few hours yesterday but we are still operating in recovery mode, Delta, the No.2 U.S. airline by passenger traffic, said on Tuesday. Delta Chief Executive Ed Bastian apologized to customers on a video posted on the companys website and said the company was working round the clock to restore its systems. The problems arose after a switchgear which helps control and switch power flows like a circuit breaker in a home malfunctioned for reasons that were not immediately clear, according to Georgia Power, a unit of Southern Co which provides electricity to most counties in Georgia. So, it was a supplier outage, not a site problem, but has Deltanot heard of back-up power supplies! :confused:Orperhaps they couldn't afford to install diesel generation for emergency use. Maybe they hadn't paid their power bill! Who knows, but an outage with consequences of that significance should have been one step below their nuclear war precautions or cancelling Donald Trump's landing rights. Cheers Billy 8-{) :waughh: |

This was a popular punishment at one school I went in the UK. Writing this out 10-20-30 times depending on how naughty I had been. Getting the cane was a preferred punishment. PJ :waughh: |

| 1424375 | 2016-08-12 01:23:00 | "It started, Mr. Bastian said, when a part failed, causing a power outage and a small fire. That caused a transformer in the data center to blow. Once power was restored, some critical systems and equipment didnt switch over to backups. The entire network essentially crashed and needed to be rebooted, the 59-year-old said, but it didnt come back as smoothly as hoped." www.wsj.com |

The initiating outage was off site, so the claim that it cause a site transformer to blow is nonsense (unless it was a transformer in an overstressed UPS). The 'logic' does not follow. Sounds like he's a right little bastian! Cheers Billy 8-{) |
