677206 2008-06-10 06:07:00 The other day I sent my PS3 60gig model back to the retailer for repairs before the warranty expires. Of recent after playing games for longer than 30 minutes would see the machine crash, what I noticed is that if I ejected and inserted another disc it would not recognize the new disc. It would seem that even turning the machine off at the wall still did not solve the problem of any disc that was inserted being recognized. What I dis notice was if the PS3 was left for an hour and then restarted it would play any disc inserted.

Does anyone know what's happening and if they have had a similar experience?

Also what will happen with the repair, does Sony in NZ take long? Will my PS3 be serviced and sent back or will I receive one they have already serviced and certified as ok (allowing for quick turn around)? Final question, will they transfer data from my hard drive onto any new unit I receive?

Thanks for any pointers

677207 2008-06-10 06:24:00 Dont Know about sony, but most of those places when they do a warranty repair espically if its only just within warranty replace the faulty part with a possible refurbished part, unless its actually cheaper to supply it new. It all depends on what is at fault.
Regarding data - most big name places dont save any data unless asked to ( then they charge you), the warranty covers the parts not the persons data. its up to the owner to backup any data.

Length of time to return also depends on several things - workload, available components, if they have to be brought in from overseas. If you go by what the consumer says, 2-3 weeks is an acceptable time.

From NZ Consumer (www.consumer.org.nz) - what you can expect. ( that link is regarding Computers, but a PS3 should be about the same)
