2008-06-09 09:39:00 | What do I need to do? The cheapest and easiest way to transfer files between the two. Emphasis on easy. Thanks

2008-06-09 10:25:00 | If you have a router, connect two ethernet cables to the PCs and the router. If you only have 2 PCs w/o a router buy a crossover ethernet cable, connect it to the 2 machines and set static IPs on both. Done.

2008-06-09 10:37:00 | That is easy. 3 things to do (make sure the workgroups are the same, configure the LAN / properties / TCP/IP), and create and share a folder on both DON'T share the WHOLE hdd. If you dont use a firewall. You dont use a crossover (If you use a router), Just connect both PC's to the router

2008-06-09 10:58:00 | So I plug an ethernet cable and a usb cable into each computer, and then what? In case you can't tell, I know nothing whatsoever about networking

2008-06-09 11:18:00 | You are Half right NO USB REQUIRED - OK Basic Network with a Router - Two Computers, two Cat5 Ethernet cables. On the back of each PC is a Ethernet port, plug 1 cable into 1 PC the other cable into the other, both cables then connect into a port in the router This picture here (www.imagef1.net.nz) shows 3 PC's so ignore the third, the picture says switch, it should be router. ( couldn't find one that said router :p ) Once both PC's are connected - right click My Computer,Properties/computer name tab, make sure both are on the same workgroup - Example here (www.imagef1.net.nz) - this workgroup is shown as MSHOME, if they are not the same on both PC's click the change button and rename one so they are the same. ( reboot required). Next go to the control panel - double click "Network Connections", right click the Local Area network, Properties/ locate and double click "Internet Protocol TCP/IP, make sure both are set to Obtain automatically, reboot. Now on the folder you want to share, or create a new one, right click it, Sharing and Security, click share this folder on the network / Allows users to change my files. ( may need a reboot again to take effect.) next go to my Network Places either on your desktop ( if its there) or start and you will see it on the right (hopefully) Double click to open and hopefully you will have access to the shared folder on the other PC. - If not theres a few more things to do /check. As speedy Mentioned - do you have a firewall installed ?

2008-06-09 18:53:00 | Thank you . I'm starting to get the idea and will try it out later in the week. I have no installed firewall. MS is running. Belkin firewall says it is running, but has never given any indication that it is.
