| 404039 | 2005-11-15 01:50:00 | What size army do you want? Multiply our armed forces by ten and we would still not have enough to defend ourselves against a serious invasion. As much as we dislike the idea, if we were invaded, we have two options. Surrender and live or defend ourselves with pitchforks (not many of those around either) and die. The sole purpose of having an army is so the PM can run around telling the world we are fighting alongside our allies in someone elsees country. Our navy might be good at catching fishing boats trying to make a living. And our air force is soley to crew some vip aircraft carrying our illustrious PM on her jaunts around the world. And they can engage in S&R operations for training purposes. Why not transfer all armeed forces into the police where than do some good. Oh, I forgot. The army provides some burly men to act as bodyguard to you know who. |

Its the PM and MPs that control the defence force and it does what they want thats how it works in NZ. And then we will get wasted because we dont spend enough money on our defence and then the public will cry out oh were is our defence force,oh save us from the rapes,torture,killings,burning down of our homes,looting our belongings etc... We spend more money on Social Welfare/Health etc then on our national security (defence force) because looking after our national security is not a vote catcher with all this politicaly correct ******** weak liberals who would proberly blame the invasion on ourselfs and saying we deserved it and we will proberly be better of with the new masters. I wonder what the WW2 vets would say about you defeatests/cowards. I wonder what the world would be like if Adolf Hitler,and the Japs had of won WW2,most of us would be slaves or dead as we would be surplus to the requirements of the masters and not fit the bill of each others ideas of a master race. And you call youself a Kiwi. I know no true Aussie would give in. Shame on you. Hey Metla I would be happy to have you in my band of true patriot kiwis fighting for freedom in NZ.And we wont be using pitchforks either... |

| 404041 | 2005-11-15 19:49:00 | yeh defence..........lol.......hahah..........even if EVERY kiwi was in he army or whatever it woulnd't make a damn bit of difference to an invader ......get real......and the armed forces spend a lot of money that could otherwise be better spend.....how about those 105 LAV's they bought for a mere $680million a couple of years ago......how much use they'll be I just cant figure and for almost $7million each they seem overpriced......hell the boys in the forces are missin out..for that price they coulda bought armoured luxury rollsroyce limos....... really the armed forces are just useful for domestic problems such as civil defence and keeping fishing boats out of our waters and that's about it......the old skyhawks woulda been shot out of the air by any modern plane before they even got close to being in range enough to use their own weapons lol.... the frigates.......well they're pretty useless too any modern navy boat would blow them away well before they could do anyting about it and or any terrorist with an exocet missile would do the same ......waste of billions of dollars....... as a serious armed force the nz defence force doesnt cut it at all and the amount of money needed to upgrade to the lateest and greatest would be completely prohibitive........ |

And if the Japs had won the war and conquered us. Not a pleasant thought. But we would be used to it by now and probably be better off. Remember when Germany staged a great ecanomic come back about fifty years ago. We used to say "let's declare war on America" and then they would rebuild the country afterwards and we will all be millionaires. |

| 404043 | 2005-11-15 20:22:00 | We can't expect to have our allies defend us (which means die for us) if we aren't prepared to do what we can, which means having an armed force and making them available in the time of need, wherever that need maybe. Other countries would do it for us. As for getting invaded, to be truthful it never occurred to me that people in NZ would let it roll over them. Seems some of you cowards aren't worth defending. Perhaps if it did happen we could have all the traitorous filth who wanted to accept it to raise their hands, then we could march you all at the enemy to draw their fire. |
