At one time I scanned their listings daily, and never once saw a bargin, let alone something well priced.

Especially when you see the same items going for pennies through Turners.
price only goes as high as you bid. if its already high then don't bid. as per normal you remove the fees from your bid price ie bid lower. i have a seen a few of the vendors put high reserves on their items. if the price is to high it won't sell and it will be up for action at a cheaper price next week.

i see plenty of people are biding over their starting prices so it can't be too dear..... or there is a lot of mugs out there......

Try to refrain from explaining how an auction works aye?, ***.

The place is slim pickings when looking for a bargin, well priced gear or even sometimes gear at market value. Thats all, No doubt the reserves are set high to cover Grays fees, Then the buyer has to pay fees as well.

404161 2005-11-14 01:38:00 Secondary schools are calling in the laptops that are 3 years old from teachers to replace them with new toshibas. Some schools allow their teachers to buy them for $600, some teachers are allowed to keep them as they have paid them off, but most will just return them and get a new one.

What does this mean? One hell of a lot of ex teaching Toshiba satalites coming on the market very soon.

404162 2005-11-14 01:47:00 Yup, ones at our school going for $680 I think. To know how teachers treat them is a bit risky for buying. techie (7177)
404163 2005-11-14 07:47:00 Yup, ones at our school going for $680 I think. To know how teachers treat them is a bit risky for buying......to know how anyone treats thier corperatly provided lappys is a risk. Anyway, $680 isnt much below the price of a cheap new toy, with less wear and better spec.

Anyways. backto trademe lappys.. why not?

I'd just make 100% sure i checked out the model etc first. Theres some real good stuff people have got through trademe, and i see no reason why if the buyer is careful that lappys should be any different.

Of course aftersales service may not be that great on an item bought through an auction.....

404164 2005-11-14 08:27:00 Well, I have been in touch with the guys down at my local Noel and Leeming store. As I thought, the discount can only be offered to more expensive PCs or if you buy extended warranty... anything with a much higher markup. The model I was looking at $1500~ did not qualify for much.

I'm not worried about buying off TradeMe provided original manufacture warranty still exists. I'm mainly looking for Asus models, for which I can take to the Asus Service Centre straight if anything goes wrong. Just a bit curious as to how people can sell for quite a bit under retail, even when they says it's brand new.. everything untouched, except maybe opened box to take photo.

404165 2005-11-14 09:11:00 Probally because they are getting them direct from the supplier and selling em for pocket money.

Even if they make $50 tax free off a sale, Hell it only took 3 minutes to set up the auction.

And $50 bucks is $50 bucks.

Anthow, got a link to one of these "beand new, lesss then retail " Asus auctions?

404166 2005-11-15 01:29:00 Anyhow, got a link to one of these 'brand new, less than retail' Asus auctions?Yup, check your PM techie (7177)
404167 2005-11-15 01:34:00 I did earlier, Some of them are very good deals, but most are simply second hand.

I also saw a laptop the same as mine being sold as a new item, yet the warrenty was limited to 1 month and provided by the seller, Which means its not new at all, sitting on display in a shop running for over a year makes it as second hand as my one is.

I also saw a couple that went for more then you can pick them up retail, I would point out which ones but became lost in a sea of tabs, priceses and auctions.....

Still, some good deals to be had.
