trying to install HP Photosmart C4180
error: Print Spooler: This service is stopped & needs to be running for installation....
Went to Services, right clicked on Printer Spooler:
error: Could not start the Printer Spooler service on the local computer. Error 2: can not find the file specified.

ran SFC
virus scan with Avast, found 1 infection & deleted it.
removed Adobe Acrobat Reader v7...

Haven't found anything in this forum or Google that helps me work through this.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

678036 2008-06-13 03:26:00 Try what it says here (forums.microsoft.com)

Was spoolsv.exe the file that was infected?

If it was (this file is used for printer spooler), and you deleted it thats why you get the error

678038 2008-06-13 03:50:00 What version of Windows is on it??

You may have to find someone with the same version of windows, get them to copy spoolsv.exe to a USB flash drive / floppy and then copy it to

C:\windows\system32

If you do a search for spoolsv.exe is it on the hdd?

spoolsv.exe found in C:\windows\$hf_mig$\KB896423\SP2QFE

spoolsv found in C:\windows\$uninstallKB896423$

678044 2008-06-13 04:36:00 Should be the same versions if both versions of Windows are 32 bit .

Copy it to C:/Windows/System32 folder then reboot

This is where it should be on yours
