677634 2008-06-11 23:24:00 Every time I start my computer the opening page is one put on my computer by Microsoft www.microsoft.com) is the address which shows in the address box.
I have tried replacing it with my own choice of homepage but am unable to dislodge it.
All of my Windows XP Pro updates have been installed and are current.
Can anyone suggest how I can get rid of this nuisance so that my homepage shows on startup instead of the MS one ?
Thanks. peterver

677635 2008-06-11 23:40:00 Take a look at the security programs you are running, one of them may be stopping the homepage from being changed to prevent spyware doing the same - seen that happen many times.

What security programs do you have?

677636 2008-06-12 09:33:00 Wainuitech, thanks for the reply, I have Spybot S & D running (along with Adaware and Zone Alarm) and I may have inadvertently given permission for this MS wart to open up first when I start the computer.
Cheers peterver

677637 2008-06-12 11:46:00 I thought so, Spybot SD has a setting which prohibits the IE Home Page from being changed. You might need to untick that box first:

Tools -> IE tweaks -> Lock IE start page against user changes

This is in advanced mode (Mode -> Advanced Mode)
