677544 2008-06-11 08:17:00 I have an Athlon XP 2000+ with stock fan/heatsink, fan measures 60mm.

Today for some unexplainable reason I happened to stick my fingernail in the CPU fan. Subsequently one of the blades broke off, fortunately my finger went unharmed.

Arrgh!
So I need a 60mm fan to screw onto my heatsink.

Question is, will a standard 60mm "case fan", like this (tastech.co.nz), do the trick?
Will it have enough airflow to keep my CPU cool, or do I need a special high-airflow fan?

Thanks
Forrest

677545 2008-06-11 09:33:00 Aha. I think I might just build my own 60mm to 80mm fan adapter and use a higher airflow 80mm fan.

Take a look at this:

677546 2008-06-11 09:37:00 And how exactly would you get a case fan to stay on top of a CPU??

With a rubberband? lol

Personally I wouldn't trust any sort of mod like that - not with the CPU getting possible damage considering its possibly the most expensive component at stake if the cooling Fell off.

EDITED: Holy Crap - I was only kidding about the duct Tape,Seems it does happen (www.imagef1.net.nz)

Lol I thought you were serious the 1st time haha

I went and knocked something up with a Lisa's Hummis container and some insulation tape last night. Seems to work OK - I probably should use glue or something though... or just buy another stock HS/F

Cheers

677549 2008-06-12 06:42:00 I think you can get adapters that screw in place of the heatsink fan too. utopian201 (6245)
677550 2008-06-12 06:57:00 I'd seriously just get another HSF, fully not worth the risk, eh. Unless you decide you want to have a DIY comp, with pig fat for thermal grease, and small stones for capacitors... let me know how that goes if you decide to. Thebananamonkey (7741)

Might get around to it when I have some free time next...
