677489 2008-06-11 04:42:00 Customer came in with a suspected dead 2.5" IDE Fujitsu, yep, sure was dead. It had a connector on it, to connect into the laptop bay.
Can't remember but I think it was male to male.

Anyway he bought a 2.5" Seagate and went away, then rang me today to say his connector won't fit onto the Seagate.

Now I've seen a few, they all seem pretty standard to me, he says there's some kind of plastic bit interferring in the fit.

You know of such a thing? They're all standard aren't they?

He hasn't been able to come back yet - he's a rural vet so finding a time is tricky.
Meanwhile I've been googling but I don't know what you call those connector bits.
I have no idea what brand laptop he had.

677490 2008-06-11 04:46:00 Yep, my Dell has a little plastic/copper connector that sits on the pins at the end of the HD and goes into the lappy, wher the other end connects.

I *think* it's to keep the pins on both ends from getting damaged.

IIRC when looked at from the end it looks like a +, so it's male-to-male, yes.

I google-imaged "dell laptop hard disk adaptor" and found the image below bixnet.net

677491 2008-06-11 09:07:00 Should be a standard connection. You sure he didn't buy a SATA drive? stormdragon (6013)
677492 2008-06-11 09:34:00 As far As I know theres only Two, IDE or SATA, there is an adapter on some that plug in like jwil1 Mentioned and showed a pic.

Sure he hasn't got it upside down ? There is a Blank on one of the rows of pins so it cant be installed the wrong way, with a corresponding blank on the connection.

If the adapter wont fit, the blank could be the "some kind of plastic bit interfering in the fit."
