No detail on the cost of infrastructure here or elsewhere, the population density required to be profitable etc. Nor any reply to the Telecom guy who said "If its so profitable, where are all the competitors?" Indeed Telstra have just pulled out of establishing a 3G network in NZ. Nevertheless Vodaphone made $500 million profit last year. They started in 1998 spending $700 million and more since so it is hard to tell whether they have broken even yet. However I suspect that prices will drop after a program like this. The Government doesn't like the high prices cos it makes them look powerless. |

I thought it hugely funny that they say NZ has become mobile phone obsessed with people having more than one as well lately and using them all the time. Then they go on about the high charges. Well, doesn't seem to be stopping all these people then does it..... Just another excuse to whinge. |
