404657 2005-11-15 13:23:00 Someone wants a hard drive I have to sell. What chance it will arrive safely via courier? (From AK to lower North Island)

Thanks

ps - it's a Seagate Barracuda 120GB 7200 and is fairly new.

404658 2005-11-15 18:07:00 Pack it well, use 3-4 layers of bubblewrap to reduce shock, address it clearly and fully. They ship them around the world with less protection than that. Use a reputable courier and there shouldn't be any problem.

I'd be more concerned about getting your money.

Cheers

404659 2005-11-15 18:55:00 Drives shipped with less protection will fail early. Seagate's instructions are

"Enclose the static-protected drive(s) in 2-inch foam rubber in a corrugated box. Multiple drives in a single box must have foam rubber between each drive. DO NOT USE foam packing pellets, bubble wrap, or newspaper."

If you buy a drive don't accept less packing than that.

404661 2005-11-15 19:28:00 Think of how it got to your place to begin with. I'm sure it will have been sent by courier at some stage and survived the trip. Jeremy (1197)

404663 2005-11-15 22:05:00 Thx folks. Just really wanted to know if it was an absolute no-no.

Would've hated it to arrive there faulty as it's a straight swap for someone else's piece of kit.
