405662 2005-11-24 21:40:00 I'm guessing that is really a bit much load to throw onto a private DSL line, especially if it is being shared with a bunch of other sites, and your regular internet usage. It definitely would be. Remember that upload speeds for most connections are only 128k which is very slow (regular servers have 10Mbps or 100Mbps connections). You can get away with it if you have a few really small sites or you just want to play around but as soon as you start offering file downloads such as videos or use your computer for the internet as well you will find that it is very, very slow for those trying to access your site. You would be better to buy hosting. Most people only need to spend about US$30 - $60 per year and not only will you have a much faster connection, you won't have to worry about the power going out at your house, Jetstream going down or your computer crashing (remember that if you are running a server it needs to be running 24/7/365). :) maccrazy (6741)

The reason i dont ask for a PM is that my hosting is for anyone not just specifically PressF1 members, but if you are a PressF1 member im likely to give you hosting straight away, without a detailed reason needed.

Thats why I never trust any crap with a conexant chipset in it :P I wonder how it escaped my axe and is still blinking merrily on the shelf?
Anyway, I have a Thompson 510 modem coming sometime nextweek (yay $25 buynow on trademe) which apparently is not bad - I only need it as a modem/bridge as routing and DNS etc is done by the Linksys WRT54GS and one of my linux boxes.

Also - if any one of you is having problems with DanielF's service please feel free to SMS me anytime (+64-27-659-9800) as his box is currently hosted at my place and probably will be for a few months time (and yes, I occasionally like to download files with the connection so it makes DanielF's server slow :P)
